[MAP] blindside

Postby vis1 » Mon Nov 13, 2006 1:37 pm

this is my first map, and it has about 10 starts for team 1, and 10 for team 2, and about 10 deathmatch starts. I have designed it with these styles of play in mind. I was interested in making a map that is balanced geometrically without being uniform or symmetric.

Here is a download link:

I hope it works.

gameplay features:
*teamplay goes vertical, one team on the top of the building, and the other team on the bottom.
*each team can see the other teams flag through glass at the very beginning of the game. However seeing the other teams flag doesn't mean it is easy to capture.
*one teams 'base' is in a lit up area so bright it is blinding, whereas the other teams base is very dark and less close to its own flag.
*laser jump or grappling hook is essential for getting around the whole map.
*multiple ways of traversing building each with different advantages and disadvantages

technical features:
*3 basic textures used, a really bright sky, a grey wall and colored glass (in 3 variations, red, blue and yellow).
*2 big bellies made of a cylinder squashed and stretched
*.map file included

Here are screenshots (edited 14/11/06)

A quick way down, but how advantageous? the middle belly exterior in center.

The pictures doesn't actually say much, it's either too dark to see anything or it's in an angle you cannot discern what you see.

thanks for your comment. When the screenshots seem to disregard the color settings i had while playing, so it appears a bit darker than it was for me when playing. I have edited the above pics tried increasing brightness of all but 3 of the above pics so they are hopefully a bit more informative now.
Aside from that, I might need to improve my aesthetics.

There is one gamma setting for play and one for capture :) scr_screenshot_gamma iirc will affect your screenshots.

I really can't see things on the map... totally dark tunnels for example. "blind" is to be taken literally...

Once I enabled polygon display, I could at least see where what is going... please put some light entities in the map, it may actually become a fun map - but not as it is now.

Oh, and is it intended that you can get into an area below the lower flag and get "stuck" in there if you don't see the floor?
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

blindside map fixed

Postby vis1 » Wed Nov 15, 2006 11:45 am

Thanks for your feedback about this map. I have tried to fix it, i hope it might be fun to play now.
I have added lights, and stairs in the dark corridors, so that moving smoothly around the map is easier. There is no longer a need for laser jumps. Also I fixed the bottom section, where you could get stuck previously, and added an extra light source down there.

Thanks to your help i think im also getting better at taking screenshots:
