I guess you alredy know my vote ;)

A few points to make
gpl/oss is not and has nothing to do with democracy or freedom of speach. You cannot claim a right to blurp out anything you like just beacouse a forum happens to be focused on a gpl project.

usage of this forum is a privilage not a right. it is not subject to any form of democratical rulings nor does it need to regard any piticular individuals interest, request or feelings.

The forums and nexuiz master servers are the propery of the ppl who run them. If thise ppl feel like banning some piticular server, individual or some random subnets this is their chiose to make. You dont even need a note from mom.

With this said i like to ensure you that the forum staff, and alientrap team, will surely listen to your requests, ides and/or complaints just as long as you keep it civiliced and can take no for an answer.

Freedom of speech (like all freedoms) has limits.

Basically the golden rule is that you are not infringing upon other people's rights or causing harm to others.

In my opinion, this guy's comments could cause harm toward women. If I operated the Nexuiz server list, I would infom him to change his server title and message of the day or his server would be removed.

It could also present the wrong message toward female players who check out Nexuiz and go to the server at the top of the list (with 6 players) and see an anti-women message.

Just my point of view.

Contacting him and trying to reason with him is proly futile, but if anyone feel they has the stamina to squabble with him, pls do =)

The bad message this person sends out to any would be female nexuizers is indeed a probem (and part of the reson he was banned from the forums). Its fairly offensive to most male ppl, i can only imagine how pissed of the lasses must get.

And besides, that has nothing to do with the game itself and is inappropriate, it's like bad ads :P

I'm just saying to at least let him know clearly why his server is being taken down and what he could do to have it put back on if he so desired. That would cause him to change his behavior. He can think whatever he wants, just as long as he doesn't harm anyone else. He can have his server up on the list as long as he is not using it to spread the anti-women messages. That would be fair and reasonable.

No. That would not make him chance his behaviour. Th man shows clear signs for paranoia and clinical pcychotism, and cannot be reasoned with in a normal, human matter. Ignore him. Force him underground whatever. its like arguing with a dead horse to get out of your way. The man is clearly less equipped then normal human beings, and should for his own good and the health of others be protected from his own opinions.

I am known for being pretty liberal, and also very tolerant and polite. so make a note of this posting. it is by far the harshest thing i've ever written in public, and it will probably never happen again.

I did some research on Mitch Obrian AKA mikeeusa, and I believe his current behavior comes from when he broke up with his girlfriend.
The linked IRC conversation between his contemporaries gives hints to the event of his mental mutation. (source)
This breakup has corrupted his view of male-female relationships (source)

He seems to enjoy trolling (source), and trolls through forums, mailing lists, IRC (see trolling source), and blog comments.
He usually has his blog comments deleted, although some authors leave his comments, and some even blog about his comments, which always include the story of the Irish man, a link to his page, and "Death to womens rights!"
As for Debian, mikeeusaa has been banned from lists.debian.org and bugs.debian.org, and was the first person to be banned from either (source)

As everyone knows, Mikeeusa made maps for Nexuiz, and emphasized that they were licensed under the GPL. (The pk3's on his server include 2 copies of the license per map)
He makes maps of insane geometry and texturing, and likes lens flares.
He was also ejected from making maps for the Crossfire game (source)

While I agree with what Voltaire wrote (welcome to the forums btw), freedom of speech should only apply to public institutions.
Mikeeusa is past the age of impressionable youth, and I don't anticipate him changing his behaviors without counseling, therefore anyone who wants to ban him from their web services is perfectly justified.

My anti-women's rights diatribes will be wherever I am, like it or not.

Nice bit of research. Guess it's quite easy when someone like that leaves such a trail of destruction.

What he is saying would be considered illegal in much of the civilised world. It's hate crime.

I am not sure if stating his "opinions" publicly would be illegal in most countries.

In Germany, it probably isn't, but he certainly wouldn't make friends that way. After all, he doesn't want to kill people, he wants to remove constitutional rights from people. This is impossible in any civilised country without changing the constitution, which is anything but likely to get though.

However, nobody of us has the (moral) right to prevent him from stating his views. If he "behaves", he may very well do that even in our forum - in the "General discussion" section (the top one, not the "Nexuiz - General discussion" one). However, as we easily saw, he isn't discussion in any sane way - it doesn't take long until he utters insults, which are NOT covered by free speech any more. Plus, I think propaganda (as in his MOTD) is not covered by freedom of speech.

BTW, strictly speaking, even a "serious" discussion about these topics may not be covered by freedom of speech - Art. 18 of the German constitution ("Grundgesetz") says that you can lose freedom of speech if you abuse it to fight against the free democratic basic order (which e.g. includes granting the human rights to people) - and I think mikeeusa does exactly that, because, what else is propaganda against Art. 3 GG (equality in law, especially with respect to gender, lineage, race, language, homeland, belief, religious and political views)?

Still, I'd tolerate a serious discussion about such topics - but mikeeusa apparently isn't able to. He seems to have no arguments other than "death to women's rights", which he can't back up.

I think the appropriate way to fight his propaganda would be changing the master servers to drop servers based on IP ranges and keywords in the host name. A proof of concept can be found in http://mensa.ath.cx/~polzer/temp/dpmaster-filter.patch

BTW: before anyone brings up that topic... Angela Merkel doesn't count as woman :P (or as Mittermeier said, "Ich will ja nicht auf der Merkel rumreiten, aber naja, wer will das schon?")
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.
