A team based mod like Team Fortress maybe?
Although it has already been done (for Q1, Q3, Halflife, ET,...) and won't
catch peoples' attention if it doesn't include some cutting-edge features.
+ too many mods can divide an already small community even more.

About crawling ability, vehicles and so on... Well, there are 2 types of shooters.
Let's call them fictional shooters ("shoot the rocket at your feet and you can do
some really nice flying maneuvers") and reality shooters ("shoot the rocket at
your feet and your body parts are lying scattered around the area"). Nexuiz
is of the first type and it should stay like that.

I was thinking things like GMOD, or mabie new kinds of gameplay, also people could use the nexuiz engine (that's probably not the right way to refer to it, but...) to make mabie a single player game.

* work on maps
* better netcode
* better performance
* positionable weapons (left, center, right)
* a nexuiz advertising campaign
* settings optimization tutorial
* sex appeal???
* this: http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=1295519
* less boxy maps
* cover, vehicles, team modes and exciting new weapons like Half Life 2's gravity gun
* some maps and modes that force high flying
* spark effect AND decals
* actual mod system w/ SDK
* language packs
* Story mode engine

I think that if we were to just add some single player functionality into mapmaking (ie bot spawn points, making different kinds of models for enemies, etc.) and put a singleplayer mode into the game, where you get the story files, it would become a completely new kind of game, anybody who can map, and think of a good story can make story scripts, IE:

Code: Select all
(cutscene plays)
cd track 5
(various other map specific setup)
map story1
(when objective is completed, continue...)
(cutscene plays)
cd track 2
(various other map specific setup)
map story 2
etc...

can create a new game without re-making the engine.

It was already tried using the old 1.2.1 codebase. It kind of fell to the wayside and most of the team went on to start developing it for ioq3

A story engine would be great. I'd imagine there's something like that already implemented for Zym. Zym's release seems like it would strengthen the AT following.

I think the main interface needs a make-over. The graphics don't seem to have much to do with the overall feel of nexuiz. It's more quake-esque than anything. I think something simple with a high-res picture of a character, map or game play would suffice.

A quick mock-up of what I mean:

Along with a make-over, I think the buttons, scrollbars and sliders should be more user-friendly.

One last thing, I don't think you should join the server when you click it in the server list, instead, it should update the server information and there should be a join button.

Oh yeah, thanks for bringing this up. I always wanted to say something about this as this have bothered me a lot but always when I quit Nexuiz I forget :P Yeah, I really hate that when you click in the server browser just once you join, especially if it's not finished refreshing and you see the server you want to join and click but misses and joins another server. That's really annoying. Has happened to me many times, heh some just don't have the patience to wait till it's finished :P

Haha! I was actually thinking about games that are full and you're waiting to join when I wrote that but damn, you're right. I hate that too.

Another thing I just noticed while playing... Since the who-killed-who appears in the center of the screen now, it's really hard to see who killed you when it overlays the score. Perhaps a black background on that popup?

If you don't understand what I'm talking about, I'll try to cap a screen if I remember.

Personally I vastly prefer the current menu art to the above mockup. Nex is an industrial feeling game, and the menu has an industrial feel. That is perfect.

I think there are two things that could be easily improved:

1 - like Cheapalert(leillei) said - the weapon positioning makes them feel kinda wimpy, and not beefy. That is a personal preference of mine, I really have always loved the way UT presented their veiw of the v_weps.

2 - The movement. It still feels very quake 1 to me, like kinda swimmy? If the movement were crisper, ala q2, q3, maybe that would help.

Either way, Nexuiz is VERY succesful to this point, and in the developer's position, I'd be leery of messing with the formula tooooo much :)

Sounds for jumping. Every FPS I have played have had some type of sound when you jump. Just one off the top of my head. Keep up the great work.
