Used to have a Logitech MX518, but the teflon pads wore off so I got myself a Logitech G5. It has been a very good mouse just like the MX518, the sidescroll buttons don't bother me since I haven't gotten them to work on Linux (never tried to). I removed all weights and the weight cartidge, so now it's very lightweight and I like that :)

ok, I'm trying to switch my primary desktop over to Linux (ubuntu) but I was having some mouse problems with my MX-518 in Nexuiz running on Linux. Nexuiz in Linux was much more responsive than running in Vista, but my mouse would randomly jump around and act glitchy. I tried setting up the evdev mouse driver, and that seemed to help a little bit, but I was still having the glitchy problems.

Note: the mouse was only glitchy when using Nexuiz, not when using the mouse on the desktop. I dare not question the possibility of it being a bug in Nexuiz because I fear the wrath of divverent might strike me down. ;-)

So, I'm looking for another mouse that is known to have good driver support in Linux (for gaming). Evidently, the MX-518 isn't that mouse.

-z- Suggested the razer diamondback, I think.

Indeed I did, I used to have the copperhead which is also supported well in Linux. The copperhead has 3rd party drivers available (called razer tools) to help you setup your profiles... but I think the copperhead is more of a gimmick than anything else.

I thought about buying a razer. Its only too expensive in combination with my hobby. The apple mighty mouse is fine for me.

I have been using a razer diamondback on ubuntu for quite awhile and it has been working great no problems at all.

Indeed the evdev driver seems to cause problems in most games on Linux, at least I had the weird behaviour you described with the cursor "jumping" to one corner. Try the "mouse" driver instead, I have:

Code: Select all
Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier     "Configured Mouse"
    Driver         "mouse"
    Option         "CorePointer"
    Option         "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
    Option         "Protocol" "auto"
Option         "Dev Name" "Logitech USB Gaming Mouse"
    Option         "Buttons" "10"
    Option         "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 7 6"
    Option  "HWHEELRelativeAxisButtons" "9 8"
    Option         "Resolution" "2000"
EndSection
