Nexuiz 2.2.3 testing candidates

Postby SavageX » Wed Jan 17, 2007 4:35 pm

Over at http://www.alientrap.org/devwiki/index. ... xuiz.Patch you can find links to current patch and full builds for the next version. I think it may be a good idea to say "Please test".

THOSE BUILDS ARE NOT FINAL YET (but pretty close). Don't spread if possible.

2.2.3 is supposed to be a bugfix release. It won't look much (any?) different but should fix some things that broke here and there.

This release is 100% compatible with 2.0/2.1/2.2 servers.

Please report any weird findings.

Note that the zip files are password protected to prevent them from getting confused with the real release that is soon to come (which has happened to two prereleases already).

The password is "justabeta". To extract them on Linux and OS X, use the "unzip" command from a terminal. The OS X zip file handling does NOT support password protected zip files, so you have to do it from a terminal. On Windows XP extracting such files works fine.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Is the patch pass protected also? Cuz on Mac OS it automatically unzipped just fine.

update: This seems to fix the problem I had on a intel iMac with V 2.2.2! Huge thanks to the devs, great work. :D

Just tested it, Is it just me or has the screen flashes disappeared when hit by enemy fire?
Something feels wrong about it.

I can confirm this. Screenflashes are missing here too on 2.2.3 RC

Bug confirmed; the new bloom code causes it when bloom is off. 2.2.3 will have this fixed, and a new RC is soon to come.

Edit: that new RC has just been built.

As for the missing PW question - I first uploaded an unprotected build and later decided to set a password. You probably downloaded the first build.

For some time, there was a build without chat area and net_banlist up there. Fixed.

BTW, I forgot to mention - the patches apply to all versions starting from 2.1, including other release candidates. So if you tried one, you can also just download a patch to update.

As there have been no replies and only seven downloads of the current candidate - please test them! We'll release it "officially" soon, probably this weekend or in next week.

OK, fixed a "leaving observer mode" bug and a "two same maps in map list -> only part of the map cycle is used" bug, this candidate should now be pretty final.

My FPS did drop from ~15 with everything on to ~10 but the new bloom does seem more realistic IMHO. I usually kept bloom off because of performance and the fact that it kinda made everything seem to glow under light. The new bloom is more subtle. I think it's better.

is it just me or are the patches not "linux friendly"? or maybe its just deb/ubuntu based distros....

the installation files are all over the place one's system, the patch includes files for all os'es. which files do i need to replace/add from the patch file?
