Stat tracking

Postby Xeno » Sun Jan 21, 2007 2:48 pm

Is there any way to opt out of having your stats monitored, saved and displayed? I just found a load of stat info on me and I would prefer to have it erased.

There are no official stats, thus we can't delete you from any; stats are entirely something the server admin does. I removed you from the RBI server stats as good as possible, though. In the future, your nickname will get replaced by "anonymous" and anonymous players don't enter the top/bottom records category at the bottom of the stats page.

According to Google, you are on DCC's stats too - to get removed, it would be best to send DCC an email to do so. The mail address is on the bottom of DCC's websites.

If the stats tracking of the RBI server is generally unwanted, I'll tone it down to just report weapon stats, which is the main reason why it is running. As for where the RBI stats are, http://mensa.ath.cx/~polzer/nexlog/totals.html
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

I'd hate too see those stats go away.. i really like them. It also adds something to the general competition among players :)

Btw there are two ways to not appear on the DCC stats pages:

1. Don't join the DCC servers.

2. Write your Nick completely in Hex code.

That's obvious, but wouldn't get rid of existing stats entries. To get rid of them, Xeno should mail DCC who put his mail address at the bottom of the page.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

I just want to point out that I'm not against stats in general because I realize that they can be fun/interesting... I just don't want my personal stats tracked (which also show WHEN I was on, etc) and I think that people should be made aware that they are being tracked.

Maybe there could be a way to configure a variable (clientside or serverside) so that people who want to be tracked can be, and set it to off by default.
