Very old early Nexuiz!

Postby Vermeulen » Thu Jan 25, 2007 6:00 pm

In case anyone is interested in the early Nexuiz dev I've uploaded some very old builds:

http://www.alientrap.org/verm/20031104.zip - November 2003, at least has some Quake3 like maps, most of the weapon models, and is somewhat playable

http://www.alientrap.org/verm/embarrassingly_bad_nexuiz.zip- The name says it all, this is the earliest Nexuiz build I have now. All half life maps, weapons and movement are just horrible and incredibly stupid, models are insanely large... but have fun

And you can check out the old Nexuiz trailer here:

Fantastic. :) Funny to try really old versions, and see how much it has changed since then.
Some old maps are cool, but all-in-all it's much better now ;)

I'm downloading right now. It's great to be able to check out really old versions and see how it all started. :D

Well i think that 2003 beta has four maps which really deserve it to be ported over into current nexuiz. Nexdm8 (in the map sources its switched with 9, thanks to savage for noticing) seems like the least work, It seems to be well textured. Imo is just needs a reworked item layout and maybe that strange shiny texture and that 'hidden hole' both need to be removed. Well some more connections would not be bad but that would be advanced stuff.
nexdm10 has a really great map layout. It will work very well as 1on1 map or minsta or nixnex ffa. But it needs quite some work. There are no real textures just white, no lightning, a few spots missing white textures. But that map just feels right, its really worth working on it.
The other two interesting maps are nexdm3 and nexdm13. But those are way to complex (visually) in their current state and even run bad on modern hardware. I do not want to know how they performed back then. But they too have quite a few interesting ideas and nice layout and whats more they are quite large and would be suited for nice tdm matches..

It was fun looking at the very old one. BTW is there a way to select the rocket launcher in that one? 'Cause it never worked for me. Anyway, I had no idea some of the models were THAT old .

As for the newer one, I keep getting the "can't load gfx/palette.lmp" error so I can't start it. At first I thought it was because I tried under wine, but in Windows XP SP2 the same thing happened. I copied the "palette.lmp" from the other one into the gfx folder and it still popped this error. As for "Data.pk3", it contains a "gfx/palette.lmp". Does anyone have any idea what is wrong? [ extra specs, probably not needed but anyway... : AMD Sempron with NVidia GeForce 4 MX 440 and 256 MB of RAM ]

Start with "-game data" option. Otherwise it can't find its files.
