But anyway, on topic. Have other games done anything about that typekilling thing? I mean if they haven't why bother. ANY game out there you try that has typing allowed in some way will have this problem. CS, Quake/2/3/4, UT and all it's series, Warsow etc... IMO don't even bother with this. And if people enjoy chatting while playing that's their opinion/like. Most of us just play games to run around and shoot things that move (or don't move too :P). Typekilling comes with the game.

Sure, if it could be done then go ahead and do some server option if you'd like. I'm not totaly against it, but the server admins should prepare themselves to take it of if people don't like it, or that people even won't join that server.

Yeah. Let's throw innovation out the window. Good point. Nexuiz certainly shouldn't do anything that other games don't already do.

I remember type-killing to be a problem back in the Q2 days. It looks like nobody ever came up with a solution for it aside from coming up with some kind of unwritten code of conduct that only half of the people follow. Maybe Nexuiz could be THE GAME that comes up with some sort of solution for type-killing.

It just seems like some ideas for Nexuiz get tossed out the window before they are even thought through because a handful of regulars think it's stupid. That just doesn't seem very intelligent to me.

Perhaps the idea that I tossed into the pot won't work as is. It seems like there are about a million variations of the idea to consider.

I hope not the programmers are affected negatively by the regulars. But they should listen to the community. If the community has ideas - those should be tried - then tossed out the window if they suck. But maybe the programmers need more motivation :o

put in voice chat like in ET, that'll fix it big time. It could be done using a robot voice, but you could still easily understand it and it spoke quickly.

I totally agree to this but we have to consider the programmers time and effort. For instance if they spend much time trying to get some kind of protection (or whatever you can call the thing) for typekillers and if the majority doesn't like it, all their time and effort would have gone to waste. Some things are worth trying out sure, but those should not take too much effort to program. Otherwise motivation will fall.

@psych: That would really be a cool thing to have in Nexuiz, I would deff go with robot voice thing. Though I personally don't talk much but maybe I would if there was an option. That however would need an option that it could be turned off by the client if he/she/it didn't want that or needed that. Also good thing to turn it of if this thing would be abused (thinking of CS kiddies :P).

Also remeber that you can develop feture x and submit it as a patch to the devs. if it works well, or at leats woks and dosent frak somethign else up its a fair bet that it will make it into the game. QuakeC, the langugage used to do thise changes, is a bit akward and has its quirks. But at the end of teh day its fairly easy to works with and given that its been arround since quake1 theres plenty of info arround for it, just be carefull to pick info that aplies to current qc (its evolved alot since the q1 days)

I too do hope that the regulars dont carry to mutch weight on their opinions, however i do think its only natural and fair that soneone who has stuck with nexuiz for some time's opinion is valued sligtly more then the unknown joe's who may be gone tomorrow.

Then ofc making clientside quakec, securety fixes and so on happen must take the first priorety to stuff liek this that may or may not work and proly wont even be enabled by default.
