Have you guys considered using a bittorrent tracker like demonoid to distribute Nexuiz? Demonoid has a relatively freindly community, though large, and Nex could get alot of exposure. Of course, there are moral implications with the pirating and all (not that I use demonoid of course   )

Also, torrents are somewhat self-perpetuating, which would save bandwidth.
I would be willing to seed such a torrent for a while if necessary.

Sure, torrents are a great thing.
BUT if one wanted to distribute Nexuiz via Bittorrent, sides like Demonoid, which are invite only, are the wrong choice, they could never be a official download source. Even public torrent sides are a bad choice, becaus using one of them for distribution doesnt look very professional.
Furthermore such sources have no "credebility", atleast I would never download any open source software from a torrent side, because the evil hackerz could have modified it to steel my beryls and emeralds from my desktop ;).
That doesnt mean a torrent download is not trust worthy in general, when it is linked from the official homepage, it is a complete different thing.
But for that u would need ur own tracker or rely on one of the open and free to use ones.
Than still one has to make sure that it is seeded well 24/7 and i mean *really* well, because a torrent that is seeded bad or not at all, would create the impression, that there is not much interrest in this game.

EDIT:

OK, after rereading i found my post sounds a bit negative. Dont get me wrong, I would for sure help seeding, (but not 24/7, as i must play and not only seed it ;) )

Some Nexuiz version have been uploaded to trackers already. But not the latest afaik.
You can upload a torrent and seed yourself. No need for an official Alientrap member to do that.

I think I will (I need to get my abysmal ratio up anyway).
By the way, Demonoid is not a private tracker, even though it seems that way. Demonoid has open invitations every friday, and other times too, and people can download without being a member as long as they dont exceed 3 a week. :D
Also, people are more likely to download stuff from a tracker like demon which is tightly qualitycontrolled (torrents get deleted if they are reported very quickly) than a public one, where viruses are rampant.

Question: would it be ok to upload only the windows/mac/linux parts separatley, or should it be kept together?

I stumbled upon a torrent for 2.2.3 a few days ago: http://www.gameupdates.org/details.php?id=851

It's kinda weird though, because everthing is unpacked, so the symlinks in the mac folders are likely to be broken (they are probably replaced by copies of the actual files, but i haven't checked that...). But at least the tracker seems to be quite nice, since it seems to serve only legal files, which is imho quite rare :P (except for a few linux trackers, but Nexuiz isn't quite "on topic" there).

@Torus: I would recommend to keep the zip as it is. All binaries in total are just 25MB, that's not really worth the effort imho.

That might be difficult, as torrents come and go/ are deleted periodically from trackers. I wasnt thinking that BT would be used to DL faster (although this is a though), but more importantly to get exposure where there is none. :?

[EDIT] ZOMG Im an ALIEN :D

I actually run a reputable open source torrent tracker (*gasp*), http://ostorr.org, and as documented in this thread a member of the forums here requested I track Nexuiz. As mentioned in the topic, the 2.2.3 torrent can be found here and is running reasonably well. I monitor releases myself so everything for the torrent is handled off site.
