yeah, I tested nexuiz on my old laptop (which has a geforce 2 go) and it can't even display the main menu at a high FPS. It needs some revision...

As i said you a few days ago: make shure the non-free nvidia drivers are installed properly. Even a Geforce 2 MX can archive playable framerates and basically any OpenGL card is able to display the menu at 30fps. So if the menu is so slow for you, direct rendering is most certainly not enabled on your system (run 'glxinfo | grep direct', i'm pretty shure it'll say no).

I've slightly updated the info page. But maybe it would be wise if we could actually start Getting things a little more standardized.

Also, I think a dynamic system performance detection system would be very handy for the games, as the average gamer isn't going to know about exec'ing config files for standard presets. I know the engine can easily detect what video card is being used which would be a good place to start...

Thanks!

As for the performance detection, wouldn't it be possible to give the player (when there is no config file, so the game is run for the first time if I'm not mistaking) the option of running a benchmark so that the game can then select optimum settings? (like Grand Prix 4 had for example) I kinda think that would fix any hardware detection problems and also future proof the whole thing (and also make it set everything based on REAL and not THEORETICAL performance).

Unlike the Windows world, a year ago is a long time for Linux. What distro are you running? Most distros will have the non-free driver in their repositories, so you should be able to simply aptitude/yum/emerge it and restart X. It really should be that simple.

Let me know what sort of problems you're having; I'll see if I can help.

Urmel... wrote:May sound a bit harsh, but the people dont seem to be willing to read the system requirements anyway, and most of the people know that you cant run a current game on a Pentium 2. So why even think about doing it?

Much more useful than readable stuff would be some presets in the user menue. The requirements ain't that high, as long as you just know how to lower all the settings that need to be lowered. And IMO that's the uneasy thing...

I look at the requirements... however they are not always accurate:\
