Linux Uninstall Question

Postby leftybob » Wed Feb 07, 2007 5:13 am

I know this is a dumb question, but I am still Windows brain-washed.
I want to try the game but I have a pretty basic question -
How do you uninstall this game from Ubuntu Linux?
Do you just delete the unzipped file?
I am used to Windows putting stuff all over the place when it installs, and you usually cannot just delete something.
Is Ubuntu Linux different in this respect?
Thanks in Advance....

You just delete the game folder to delete the game. The configuration however is stored in ~/.nexuiz, which you can delete too if you want; however, it may be wise to keep the configuration around, so just delete ~/.nexuiz/data/dlcache which is the cache of downloaded maps.

If you installed this game using Ubuntu's package management however, the proper way to delete is "aptitude remove nexuiz" - but as you say you unzipped it, the proper way would be deleting the game folder.

Generally, Linux applications store their configuration in a directory called like the program, but with a leading dot, inside the home directory. Other than that, Nexuiz installs nothing.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

*G* i'm all for banning people asking how to uninstall our fine game :P :) ;)
Just kidding..
But does Ubuntu install 'real graphic drivers' by default? If not you will have to do that too.

Not if you have a recent ati/nvidia card. You can install nvidia-glx with synaptics / apt after enabeling the right repos, but im my case this cost me smp support. Theres a nice script here : http://albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html for installing the latest nvidia/ati drivers on ubu without messing with the kernel.

Well, im just telling ya that i did for me =) And its not unknown ( http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=312290 ) for this to happen on Ubuntu. Its also worth noticing that this "envy" script installes the very latest nvidia drivers and tools.

Anyhow on my older testbox with a singlecore cpu and a gf2 gpu using the multiverse nvidia-glx worked just fine. (i still ended up installing the driver with envy tho, since the newer nvidia-config tool has some settings the old one dosent)
