Hardware wise, I have 1 card in a PCIe slot and one in a PCI slot. Both cards have both DVI and VGA output.
Software wise, Windows allows you to configure your cards vs. multiple monitors very easily within display properties.
Each box is draggable, so you can rearrange the monitors however you'd like. The video output is selected from the
Display: dropdown menu.
I also use
UltraMon because it allows me to add extra taskbars to other monitors (windows doesn't support this natively) and set hotkeys to move applications to another monitor/maximize an application across all monitors.
