for some reason when I try to play your demos, and some of Kojn's older ones its all black. I can see the game being played, but I can't see the map?

That is because some of the demos are recorded using Nexuiz v1.5. The maps have different mapnames than the current version. So your version cant open the maps to play the demos.

There is a perlscript to rename the names in the demos, in svn trunk/misc afaik.

Hmm i'm not sure if anyone still hosts that old demos.. but yeah thats an other possibility. Though even if you use that script to rename the map names in the demos you will still miss a lot of effects as the newer versions of Nexuiz just use a different way to do them. So you better try 'my' method. Also there are maps that are available in several version, each one improved. Its possible that you only have a newer version of the map while the demo would need the older version.
If you open the ingame-console you should be able to find some error message telling you that it did not found some map. Might help in finding the right map.
