Chat in nexuiz (public, irc)

Hello,

yesterday i played nexuiz and Xeno was chatting with us, but he was not joined to this game.
How does this work? IRC?

The RBI servers are also reachable from an IRC channel, that is, in-game chat is connected to an IRC channel.

But this is a feature only of the RBI servers. I wanted to open the code for that, but still need to find time to clean it up and document it.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

What is the advantage / benefit of this feature?

It was irritating that someone outside the game was reading the messages and writing messages.
I dont like that you dont know who is reading your messages.

Public chat is - public.

say_team is of course not directed to the channel.

We all can watch your steps, ain't that advantage enough? diVVerent isn't exactly right, this is also a feature on all the DCC servers. 8)

For the server admin, so I can see who is complaining about the sucking map, or found a bug in the code, or needs help with the game. In that case, I can then help him from IRC without being in the game all the time.

Another option that the server admin can enable or disable. It's a good thing.

Its also good to keep an eye on the server to see if some are offending others in ingame chat or otherwise cause trouble. Good server admin do not just start a server and let it run but watch and care for it from time to time.

Thanks for your explanations. This is a good feature for the admin.

But who else can read and write ingame messages?
Is it possible to spam a game with messages from irc?
