Another possible benefit would be less tying up the server with ppl only chatting. I sometimes join a server where i know a m8 it just cuz i need/want to chat with him/her. Many ppl are hard to reach with say im or irc while gaming.

make it +m and make a bot remove voice from ppl chatting too much

another advantage: if you're server's full, and you can't SSH, just go on IRC, and talk with the people there...

Or another way to protect the server from spamming: make the channel invite only.

I found this thread only by searching by the subject, and think it would be honest tell players clearly about this type stalking. I have nothing against server admin keeping an eye on his server, but the fact there's some fucking good brother network surveilling my playing and chatting really pisses me off. You wont see me on RBI or DCC servers.

I hope this patch isn't going to main source tree?

You shouldn't join any public Nexuiz server you don't know the admins of then maybe. If the admins have enabled logging all your chat goes to the log and they will be able to spy on you. And the admin can also get the console directly if he runs the server with screen. Or they pipe the server's standard output to a file.

Either you take this too serious or are just trying to create bad tensions.. In my opionion EACH server SHOULD at least log what is going on so the server admins can keep an eye on their server to spot troublemakers, look for problems with maps or other stuff. Such log files are usually readable by a handful of people adminstering that server.. Using an irc channel for such a thing is hardly any different and its even something that has nothing to do with the game so its not a "patch" that will make it into the game.. its just a kind of irc bot that forwards stuff from a logfile into an channel..

A admin could setup a irc bot to forward some other output from some other program to an irc channel.. nothing new here.. You could play a round of quake3 and some funny admin could display what you write ingame on some new york bulevard display
