If you want to know why more people don't play, I'll tell you.

1. Insufficient publicity.

2. Not enough servers. And a reluctance of people to move to new servers, preferring to stick to the ones they always use.

3. An environment that is hostile to new players: DM games where people run up the score, and CTF games with no effort made to balance games. (Apparently it's too much to ask that when the score is 215-10, and there are two players on the first team with 80+ points each, for one of them to maybe consider switching sides.)

This causes people to get frustrated and quit. I'm starting to get there myself.

You better restrict that to people only play on 'well-known' server because there servers with a total capacity of over 900 player slots running :)

The other two points might be valid butare not the problem of the game.. and i'd even say its not the fault of 'those two top players' .. most of the time teams get unbalanced because people leave in MID-GAME without even saying a word. When you are busy playing it can be hard to notice the scores. AND NO PEOPLE HATE IT WHEN THE GAME DOES REBALANCE TEAMS AUTOMATICALLY. it was done before, people just do not like it. Most of the time it can be fixed by just ASKING people to switch. But remember its not really fun to fight half the match for one team and then being asked to switch.

Regarding publicity it will improve with the next version that is due in a few days because it removes the biggest two points people were criticizing all the time..

Flipping heck (is swearing allowed?), I don't see a date anywhere. Dang I'm slow.
Anyway you've been saying a few days from now so I'll just wait.

We could try making and uploading good trailers to places like youtube and show them on places like myspace.

Heh i never thought it was that hard to find.. so let me quote the first news entry (the one at the bottom):
Tuesday May 31th , 2005 - Vermeulen
After many years of development, Nexuiz has been released to the public! Nexuiz is a fast-paced, chaotic, and intense multiplayer first person shooter, focused on providing basic, old style deathmatch. The 1.0 release weighs in at 161MB, and includes 17 maps, 28 playable characters, and 10 music tracks. It is cross-platform, and supports Windows and Linux (x86 and x86_64), with Mac support coming soon (patch to be released in the next few days).

All of Nexuiz is licensed under the GPL, including the core engine, the textures, maps, sounds, and models. It is extremely modder friendly. Because of its GPL license status, it can be included in any Linux distros or packages and is entirely free.

Nexuiz is built on the power of the Darkplaces engine, which is a heavily modified version of the original Quake. Darkplaces features realtime lighting and stencil shadows, bumpmapping, gloss, bloom, and totally rewritten network code that supports up to 64 players on a single server. While quality gameplay was our primary goal, it's graphics technology and artwork allows the game to compete with the current quality of commercial games.

Any online deathmatch fan will instantly feel at home with Nexuiz' weapons and movement style. The fast server browser and quick loading time allows you to jump right into a game at a moments notice and play a quick game.

So.. now what do you think would be a nice date for 2.3??? :)

do you really think this is useful? there are millions and more videos on youtube - no one would search for videos of a game he/she doesn't play or even know ... at least I wouldn't do it.

making noticeable links on your own pages, posting to blogs about nexuiz, telling your friends, voting for nexuiz at developer contests, founding player groups in gaming community's etc pp

I think this would make more sense.

writing articles for gamers magazines would be best, imho.

hint for the date: "birthday"
