The Nexuiz North American community needs some help.
I would like to throw out a request that we as a community try to bring more people that we play against on the servers onto this forum to interact. Ultimately, I would like to see more people get involved in starting new clans, joining the ladders and establishing tournaments for north america. I've seen an increase in the number of quality US/Canadian players in the past few months and I think if that is nurtured properly, then it will grow rather than fizzle.
Mr Carlyle is an example of a very skilled player (one of the top north america players for Nexuiz) who only recently posted on this forum for the first time (to my knowledge). I regularly see players on the north american servers that are also very skilled, but they aren't in a clan and don't participate in tournaments (because there are none for north america) and they don't post on this forum.
We need more NA servers.
The Fusion CTF server seems to be filling a role as a good CTF server for North America, for now. It's been pretty busy for the couple of weeks, and the numbers keep increasing. I think, in this case, "if you build it, they will come" really applies....or rather, they will stick around. The number of players on Fusion seem to be increasing in a short amount of time. The server has been full a lot over the past few days.
It would be wonderful to see another 1 or 2 servers pop up to make room for more regulars. We already have a solid generic DM server, a couple of 1v1 servers (GA and NY). I would like to see another CTF (no grapple) server like Fusion, but perhaps with a different mix of maps (the ones that I don't want on the Fusion server...like Mentalspace and Greatwall). I would also like to see a grapple CTF server.
I was speaking wtih a player named "Breathe" yesterday who said that he may be interested in starting a server out of Oregon. He has a colocated server on a DS1 line at an ISP that his friend owns. To my knowledge, Breathe doesn't post on this forum. Maybe we can help him get that server running.
I plan to move the Fusion server to a better hosting provider (SoftLayer) over the next few months. My current webhost kinda sucks in the network department.
If you have any suggestions for boosting or nurturing the north american nexuiz scene, post your thoughts here.
