The Nexuiz North American community needs some help.

I would like to throw out a request that we as a community try to bring more people that we play against on the servers onto this forum to interact. Ultimately, I would like to see more people get involved in starting new clans, joining the ladders and establishing tournaments for north america. I've seen an increase in the number of quality US/Canadian players in the past few months and I think if that is nurtured properly, then it will grow rather than fizzle.

Mr Carlyle is an example of a very skilled player (one of the top north america players for Nexuiz) who only recently posted on this forum for the first time (to my knowledge). I regularly see players on the north american servers that are also very skilled, but they aren't in a clan and don't participate in tournaments (because there are none for north america) and they don't post on this forum.

We need more NA servers.

The Fusion CTF server seems to be filling a role as a good CTF server for North America, for now. It's been pretty busy for the couple of weeks, and the numbers keep increasing. I think, in this case, "if you build it, they will come" really applies....or rather, they will stick around. The number of players on Fusion seem to be increasing in a short amount of time. The server has been full a lot over the past few days.

It would be wonderful to see another 1 or 2 servers pop up to make room for more regulars. We already have a solid generic DM server, a couple of 1v1 servers (GA and NY). I would like to see another CTF (no grapple) server like Fusion, but perhaps with a different mix of maps (the ones that I don't want on the Fusion server...like Mentalspace and Greatwall). I would also like to see a grapple CTF server.

I was speaking wtih a player named "Breathe" yesterday who said that he may be interested in starting a server out of Oregon. He has a colocated server on a DS1 line at an ISP that his friend owns. To my knowledge, Breathe doesn't post on this forum. Maybe we can help him get that server running.

I plan to move the Fusion server to a better hosting provider (SoftLayer) over the next few months. My current webhost kinda sucks in the network department.

If you have any suggestions for boosting or nurturing the north american nexuiz scene, post your thoughts here.

Mrrr.... Chryyz has been telling friends about Nexuiz he has. North American friends. And Chryyz' North American friends tells their friends, which then tell their friends....

In conclusion... I've gotten 3-5 people to play so far, and I don't hesitate to tell people ^.^

Awesome. That's what I'm talking about.

If we get enough people involved, then we can organize some tournaments for North America..like 1v1, 2v2, clan_vs_clan, etc.

One key is, we have to get them to come to the forum. That way, they can be notified of upcoming tournaments.

I play about every night, and spread the word as much as I can. Along with that, I am always ready to help newer players learn how to play better, so they will spread the word, and the game will grow. We need to find more people who have alot of bandwidth to run more servers on this side of the pond.

every time I've given the game to a friend they've called me up asking how to play it. One guy who is extremely whiney wouldn't stop bitching about how it didn't work, when he only extracted nexuiz.exe from the zip. I think making an installer for windows would get us so many more players. Actually, wait, that would bring us not so many good players, nevermind... keep it the way it is...

I completely agree with the Windows setup suggestion. I think it's a good thing to reduce barriers to entry. Some people out there might not know what the hell a zip file is, but they make a really good gamer.

I also still think it's a great idea to work on the tutorial videos. I would like to work on that project. I think that project could improve the skillset of many new Nexuiz players.

I'd put up a windows installer if I had a place(s) to host the beast.

And I'd make a Windows installer in the official build script if there were a free (so no InstallShield) way to create one from Linux (where all builds are made).
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Would this help?
