mac binds?

Postby The mysterious Mr. 4m » Sat Jul 07, 2007 8:49 pm

i'm a windows user but i try to help everyone and mac people keep reporting strange stuff, like "unknown command +moveleft" after trying to bind something. i hope its not my short-term-memory-loss again and its the same player asking the same questions and reporting the same problems over and over....

anyway, what are your thoughts on this? are there different commands, binds, etc, for mac or does it simply behave differently? i'm quite curious about this because i thought it should work for all platforms the same way.

Unknown command +moveleft just can't happen. Sure that is what they saw?
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

i know! maybe it was a typo or i dunno what but it really seems mac people experience some weird behavior. :?

some report their "e" (+hook) isnt working either or have weird impulses. i dont remember what it was exactly but "impulse 13" didnt produce any clone, instead the console printed something weird (i forgot) and stuff like that.

That's normal, since the default config is always loaded on startup. Possible solutions: create an autoexec.cfg with "unbind e" or bind something useless on e (e.g.: "bind e echo")

oh and another mac problem... making .cfg files. it won't allow u to save directly from textedit to a .cfg, so u first have to make it something else ,then rename the file to .cfg. however, the file still retains the properties of the original extension, even though it now says its a cfg file. for instance, i know when making something a .cfg.rtf from textedit then changing it via renaming to just .cfg then trying to exec the .cfg file u just made when in game, it says something about rtf even though the file is .cfg and won't run the file.

i have also had trouble from my mac changing the special fonts around. it seems the characters i see on screen are different then what they are supposed to be and when pasted into a cfg file (i figured out a trick by Downloading Xeno's generated keybind file and editing it to my own .cfg to avoid the mac problems with making a .cfg)... anyway. when i paste the char's into the .cfg and try to spell out the word Turner in the name command, then run the .cfg, the word Turner does not appear. instead it is a scrambled selection of alternate characters, some in "cool" some in "LCD".

: )

you need to use .txt not .rtf files. You can choose that in simpletext's prefernces (Plain Text instead of Rich Text)

When saving the cfg file, encode it as Western (Windows latin 1) instead of UTF or Mac OS Roman. That way you will get the special charachters encoded right

cheers

what if my only options are .xml, .doc, .rtf, or .html?

for some reason textedit is only giving me a drop-down menu for save as and only with these four options.

if i manually type an extension it says i can either use both the one i wrote and the extension from the menu or just the extension i have selected from the menu.

Wasn't SimpleText an OS 9 app?
