AQUAAAA!!!! :D :D :D :D

the bright colors are a great addition, especially for playing during day light.
but i for one usually play at night and i simply prefer dark themes (with colorful accents). i plead to you for adding an option to switch between palettes so people can choose bright or dim (or all) colors.

imagine dark character models on the Dark City map! XD

Well, there IS a cvar to go to the original colors (if anyone wants), but there is NO cvar to enable/disable fullbright players clientside. I am still looking for a solution to give players good brightness in the dark without making them fullbright...
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Green's weird screenshots now found an explanation - DarkPlaces had a bug that makes fullbright stuff appear twice as bright on fullbright skins. LordHavoc fixed it today and I undid the darkening of the fullbright skin - so the fbskins now have the correct brightness both in glsl and non-glsl operation.

Can't, the old ones were a bug in the GLSL path. Also, the new fullbrights just look better...

However, the fbskin aliases now work with teamplay too. So you can get REALLY fullbright red/blue CTF players now!

I must be the only one, but I think the new skins are terribly unbalanced, leading to more intentional color hiding.

Which ones, just the colors on the top? You should try it in game, damn GIF format only supports 256 colors...

if you mean the difference between red and blue team, yes, the difference is too large in fullbright I think. In non-fullbright, it's a clear improvement for me when playing, no matter in which team I am. Neither the blue nor the red are much used on maps in that saturation. Only exception may be the map Eyecancer_CTF, but even there I can clearly see players.

However, this is a general problem in CTF and Key Hunt - the team colors just can't be made the same brightness, no matter what you do - especially if yellow and pink are also team colors. There just is no pair of blue and yellow tones that are equally bright. However, given that the blue is a quite strong one, it still is visible everywhere and different enough from blue tones found on CTF maps. This problem is well known to every mapper - they just don't find a red that is the same brightness as blue and still deserves the name "red". They can tone down the red, but then the blue is too colorful in comparison... it's bad either way.

This seems like a good idea for Nexuiz for fast-paced part.
I noticed that some colors don't seems to change much, and that this may cause players to shift to the darker colors, making for less diversity and turning some players into targets.

Also, could this mess gameplay on particular maps, and as I think about it, the contrast in players and the environment almost seems awkward. This is probably for the better, but I'm not jumping for it.

By the way, what makes hardcore? Seems like its being defined differently throughout the thread.

The correct definition is "Anything relating to or deriving from Dave Himself"
