IP and bad rcon command logging

Postby John Galt » Tue Aug 21, 2007 9:40 pm

Hi all,

Two quick questions:

1) How does one turn on IP logging on the server? I know 'status' will give you the IPs but as I'm often not around to babysit, I'd like to keep a log so that I can at least catch asshats after the fact.

2) Bad rcon attempts aren't being sent to console. How can I turn that on?

Thanks

I haven't solved # 2 yet, but I set a simple cron job using the external rcon client to do 'status' calls at intervals. I guess that's the best I can get for ip logging, eh?

Does anyone know why unsuccessful rcon attempts aren't logged?

Thanks.

Two reasons:

- you could too easily spam the log file with that to get REALLY large

- it wouldn't contain any useful information, as the source IP of UDP packets (like rcon) can be easily faked
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

That all makes sense, divVerent -- thanks for the quick response.
