Sadistic key bindings

Postby divVerent » Mon Sep 03, 2007 6:35 am

bind F10 quit
bind F11 disconnect
bind F12 screenshot

So when trying to screenshot, you end up disconnecting accidentally, or even quitting.

What to do about this?
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Don´t know.
I never had that problem. I always have a look at the keyboard, before i make a screenshot. :P

So, leave it as it is, please.

(BTW, after you disconnected or quit for about 10 times, (some might need 15 times) you should have learned, which key to press.) ;)

or, like, me, you'll just bind the other keys to screenshot too :P

seriously, I did not make this poll for me - this topic came up in #darkplaces again...
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

Some tips

Postby :) » Mon Sep 03, 2007 8:39 am

A keyboard can be dangerous if used incorrectly.

Please follow these rules:
One finger per key (Hint: Are your fingers smaller than normal? Wear 10 thimbles!)
One key per finger (Hint: Having trouble? Aim for the center of the key)
Use the correct key (Fact: The computer is not able to guess that you meant to enter another key than you have pressed)
Don't experiment with your keyboard (Fact #1: Every 5 seconds, almost 3 million people accidentally press ctrl-alt-backspace [source] ) (Fact #2: Pressing the "Sys Rq" button will often trigger viruses written to target curious keyboarders)
:)

"Use the correct key" is exactly the problem... if you want a screenshot in game, you want it FAST. You don't have time to think about which key to hit. Ideally, you'd hit one big button "SCREENSHOT"...

speaking of which... is it possible to bind the Print Screen key? It is easy to hit, and nothing harmful near it.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Hi

bind f10 "echo tf10"
bind f11 "echo tf11"
bind f12 "echo tf12"

bind o "quit!
bind l "say gone;disconnect"
bind + "screenshot"

bind 0 "say Transmission error, pleas press f10 for details"

so no Problem here, did this because f-keys did not work on a mac st that time-
