Looking for staff for new site: PlanetNexuiz.com

Postby GreEn`mArine » Wed Oct 03, 2007 3:51 pm

After going a long way I would like to present the page www.planetnexuiz.com to the public. The goal of this page is to be the biggest platform dealing with (new) information about Nexuiz. It addresses very new players who probably haven't even downloaded the game and want to be informed about it, as well as newbies who already play the game and need additional information. It also addresses the veterans, by being a library of knowledge.

Some of you might already know about the German version of this: PlanetNexuiz.de. The difference is that PlanetNexuiz.com will provide the content in English and German (planetnexuiz.de provided it only in German). This way the whole community can be addressed, as English is the default language.

The plan is to create high quality articles. This means: high quality for the used language and of course for the content. To achieve this I will need volonteers. I will need editors who can create new articles (either just in English, or also in English and German), I will also need reviewers, and translators.

Reviewers are important to validate the correctness of the content of the original version (English version) of the article, as well as correcting the spelling and grammar mistakes of both the English and German version.
Translators are important for translating articles from English to Geman.

Interested? I'll give you more facts:
  • Editor: Apply as an editor if you have enough knowledge of either the game or the community. This means that I am looking for people who
    • would like to contribute to informative articles (e.g. server setup guide, gameplay information, tips&tricks, etc.)
    • would like to write news articles about what is happening in the scene
The requirement is that you speak English well (it's not required to speak it natively). If you also speak German natively it would be good if you can provide both the English and German version of your new articles.
  • Reviewer: We need two kind of reviewers
    • content reviewers: it's important that you know a lot about the game, the DP engine etc. The goal is that you can have a look at articles and see if there are any flaws in it (wrong information)
    • language reviewers: people who either speak English or German (or both) natively.
The "best" reviewer is someone who speaks English natively and knows a lot about the game :). But we're not picky.
  • Translator: A translator will translate an article from English to German. Thus, good English knowledge and speaking German natively is required.

If you think you would like to contribute, contact me using IRC at irc.quakenet.org in one of the famous Nexuiz channels, such as #nexuiz :). My nickname is [PGP]GreEn`.

For those of you who are German, take a look at PlanetNexuiz.de to see what I would like to create. PlanetNexuiz.com is meant to replace the PlanetNexuiz.de page eventually. I wanted to establish PlanetNexuiz.com because of multilingual content and the ability to work on content with a team, which makes it easier to create content and keep it updated. PlanetNexuiz.de was created by me and I did it almost all alone, and as a result I couldn't keep it updated. Most of the articles there are outdated. I just want to reference to this page to give you an idea of what my goal is for PlanetNexuiz.com.

Wow, nice job on this. I'd be up to help in anyway possible.

Question: Does the nickname and password I used for the North American tourney on this ( http://planetnexuiz.com/tourney/?sid=5& ... t=add&opt= ) site crossover to the new planetnexuiz.com site?

Hey, that's good that you want to help. Your account for that tourney script won't have to do anything with the planetnexuiz.com accounts that you'd have to sign up for in order to become part of the team.

I would like to help, but i don't speak German.
would like to write news articles about what is happening in the scene

By that do you mean, events like 2.4 released or new game type, new playermodels and so on?

I would like to be an editor (preferably , I'm not sure if I fill your criteria, but I can bind, create aliases, use special characters. I even have my own nexuiz site, which most of you know of.

But if I'm not what your looking for, that's ok.

I'd be more than willing to write articles. If not, I can always review. I can natively and fluently speak the English language.

Uhm, well Green, you know me and you should know about my knowledge and my abilities.

hmm... maybe a pre-translator to forward existing stuff to a natively english speaking person who'd give it the finish.

So if you see anything I can do for you, just tell me and I'll try to do my best

Why is natively so important anyway? I can tell you that I speak better English than most native English people :D I'm not signing up to help, can't as I'm busy with own stuff. But wondered why natively have so big effect. But I'm also one of those people who have easy to learn languages. I even speak better Swedish than most of my friends and I'm not even a Swede to begin with.
I think the whole concept of requesting native language speakers is a bit angled. It's true that the majority of native people should speak the language better than others, but it's not necessarily always the case. Requesting someone who can speak the language fluently is good enough for me, as a native speaker doesn't always have as good perception in the language as the other guy. It all comes down to how well the person has studied the language and how well his speech/writing is.
