graphics improvements

Postby divVerent » Sat Apr 01, 2006 10:38 am

The next version of Nexuiz will feature some new high-end graphics improvements. One of these will be deluxemapping, but it's not quite surprising since we already know that very well. Same goes for offset- and reliefmapping.

But some new graphics effect that was never there before will come: the realism of the bloom effect will get vastly improved using Outerior Volumetric-Eccentric Radial Kinematic Latrocity of Light, short OVERKiLL. Just look at http://mensa.ath.cx/~polzer/temp/%62%6c%6f%6f%6d.jpg

Another nice effect, which is meant to be combined with v_psycho 1, is Anti-Texture Interior Surface Lowering, short AnTISLow. This basically is a minor optimization to make Nexuiz run better on the ATI drivers and has not much effect on NVidia cards. A demonstration of this is available here: http://mensa.ath.cx/~polzer/temp/%73%75%72%66.jpg.

So you can expect much of the upcoming release, and you won't be disappointed!
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Finally a better RL model! When i showed Nexuiz to some other gamers they were impressed overall but LAUGHED at the models. They couldn't figure out what the RocketLauncher was.

Kinda cute how the first shot is at 3FPS....
Has anyone though about optimizing what we already have rather then adding more stuff most machines can't handle?
Might be worth looking into...before people stop playing it cuz the system cant handle it anymore.
Just a thought.

Heh, you had me at first there. I actually started to get pissed off that I wouldn't even be able to run Nexuiz, and was this close to asking if I should just uninstall now.

Then, I figured it out.

PHREAK does have a very good point though.

Hehe, turned up the bloom blur radius and the bloom resolution... setting bloom to ridiculously high values kills FPS like nothing else and always looks weird.

It doesn't get much slower than it already is in the next release... only thing which might become a problem is deluxemapping.

On my Geforce 2 MX in my "server", Nexuiz still works fine (and deluxemapping is not done because the graphics card does not support it), where "fine" means "50fps 640x480". So we can say Geforce 2 MX will be the absolute minimum for Nexuiz. But it already was before...

BTW, the AnTISLow mode runs at 400fps on a better graphics card... and is in fact the only way to play Nexuiz on a Radeon 9200 with ATI's Linux drivers (640x480 30fps) which are supposed to be vastly slower than ATI's Windows drivers, but I cannot confirm that because Windows does not run on my Mac mini.

Sorry to disapoint you buts its the same rocketlauncher IMO. There was just a small bug in the modelloader so the covers are missing..

There's free drivers for R200s that work fine.
