Some months ago, when I last played Nexuiz, I encouraged various north american players to create clans. My reasoning for this is because I wanted to see people improve and I wanted to participate in clan vs clan matches with advanced strategy and gameplay.

I found that some people weren't interested in forming clans for various reasons. I think some of it was just the cool factor where they thought joining a clan was dorky or whatever. I really don't know the real reasons because they were vague. Some people showed a little bit of interest, but they didn't act on it. Some people didn't know how to form or join a clan, so I started this basic tutorial to help some of them. http://www.nullgaming.com/clans.html

Aside from not liking the word "clan" itself (I think they should be called teams or something else), the thought of having clan members training together to work on team communication, strategy, technique, etc...is the thing that really kept me interested in Nexuiz. That was the holy grail that I was searching for. That is why I joined TSA (www.stormassault.com). If there aren't other clans to match, then obviously that plan fizzles.

So, if there are more clans being created, then that is good news. It might prompt me to consider playing Nexuiz again soon. Though, I do need to build a gaming machine first. My laptop is getting a bit old.

I know the reason to be in a clan. Clan members share information, be it strategies, tricks, etc. more freely than they would share with non-members. After joining the clan I am in, I learned a great deal, which has made me a much better player. Clan matches would be tons of fun, but at the moment, I'll be content with sharing game knowledge with my clan

Usil's clan?
[ I ] ?

I didn't think Usil was serious about his clan. I mean, I thought he was just doing that as a joke to fiill up the screen with a bunch of [ I ] names.

It's cool that you're learning things from it. That is what it should be about, IMO.

Usil isn't serious with the clan, but I have gained knowledge and shared it with my clanmates much more freely than with non-members. Usil doesn't need to be serious, he owns all of NA nexuiz-wise :D

Clans is good for learning tips and tricks I am sure.

But I really wonder why there is so few clan matches or practice games being played, I think it's everyones fault including mine :) I mean there are hardly anyone asking for matches...
It's my belief that irc is the best place for organizing matches, and we have #nexuiz, #nexuiz.ladder and #nexuiz.tourney as the main channels (quakenet), maybe we could add one more with some kind of match/gather/mix bot.

Of course some of us is busy with other stuff irl so it can be hard for some to be active, but many can play, and if you can play - play! :)

I have a feeling some clan matches will be getting organized soon. There's a lot of eager players within the community. Threads like this certainly help stir the pot and get everyone's gears turning.

On a side note:

I've been playing a while, just didn't feel like signing up here until I saw this thread.

Clans are created for the following reasons:

To learn and share experience
To gather a group of friends to have friendly matches with
To have scrimmages/wars
Some cases to take over or be the best possible

There isn't much happening in respect to the wars, we had two back last year but after that no one came to us. In fact one of the clans finished because they lost? or had enough of losing? Who knows.

As for clan control IMO, It needs to be kept friendly, helpful and atmospheric, any clan members who argue with other players are not acceptable. the clan tag stealing thing can be avoided by adding those wildcard characters into the tags. most kids don't know how to use them. I've never had the problem of people stealing tags though, Also taking anyone under 15 i'd say is a bit foolish for a clan, the last thing the community needs is a bunch of kids yelling "OMG U SUK!" "GTFO NEWB" and yada yada yada. Yeah there can be people who are like that at 20+ and for that fact they should be banished from the game like I believe "Punkbuster" has started implimenting.

Clans shouldn't really have huge amounts of people either, I like to keep mine to a small amount, I currently have 5 and my aim is 7. I've seen a few with like 20 members, players it's like. Why would you have all those? You surely can't be using all those players positively.

Anyway If you can somehow manage to read through that, then congratulations. I know It's all senseless jumble but it's 5:20AM and really I don't care about my typing right about now.

I agree 100% with that.
That was the main criticism that I had with Usil's clan when he was creating it. He has like 12 people or something. That's too many. He said the reason was so he could fill up the top spots on the DM servers with his clan's name. So it was about ego boosting, basically.

Longhorn, just because Usil beat everyone at DM doesn't mean that he would be as effective in CTF. Kojn admits that he isn't nearly the same player in CTF that he is in DM, for example. It's a different set of skills. His DM skillset can't overcome a good strategy and team cohesiveness. Just something to consider.
