Clan craziness

Postby torus » Sun Nov 11, 2007 2:26 am

There has been a recent surge of Nexuiz players becoming interested in clans. With this is a lot of chat during games, bartering clan invites and such, and people switching their allegiances or recruiting for their own.

What are people's thoughts on this? There are a few long standing clans, such as MoN and PB and BOT, which I imagine are truly communities unto themselves. Their userbase seems to be relatively stable as well. Does creating a clan simply for the purpose of appending a tag to the front of one's name, or the prestige of membership, defeat the purpose of a clan?

The point of a clan seems (to me) to be a group of people with whom one can play with, and who have similar skill levels or common interests- in my view, this kind of behaviour depreciates the value of being in such a community.

This doesn't even take into account the irritating antics of people like "Blue Dragon," who's pestering in game is getting old, imho.

Thoughts?

I've noticed that some people just make a back up clan, they make it until they get into the clan they want to be in. I think it's stupid.

If they are serious clans they will mos probably have a site or a server, than again, they may have none (MoN at the moment). I'm trying to make sure GT doesn't turn into a take anyone clan. Or it doesn't die out. I'm working towards a well known and long lasting clan like PB and MoN.

Also, isn't funny how one person might hole a terible clan together.

I do agree, the clan's aren't real clans (temporary clans) are annoying.

Indeed, on ctf servers, every other second there's someone whining about wanting to join this clan or leaving that clan.

I don't see what's the point of having clans if there's no games played. What's up with that?

Maybe having a NA 2vs2 tourney soon to get the whole clan thing started? I'd be happy help set one up, I really enjoyed the 1on1 tourney.

Because you aren't a good player unless your name has a prefix in brackets. Also, colors, lots of blinding colors.

As long as we're on the subject of stupid annoying color madness (TM), is there some way to prepend an override color (say, white) to *everything* in chat text? I'd like to be able to read stuff occasionally. Color codes are great for team_say stuff, but I've really had it with trying to figure out people's names.

I'm looking at you, Oblivion. 8)

Indeed, black in names (and sometimes grey) is unreadable, and should be banned (at the very least).

Obby kindly changed to gray last night for me. I don't mind gray. At least it's one color and not black. I don't want to see any colors banned. Let ppl do as they like with their colors. I just want to be able to override them as I see fit.

In 2.4: r_textbrightness 0.5 - maps black to grey, grey to a brighter grey, blue to a brighter blue, etc.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.
