defrag

Postby Urbanshenkie » Tue Dec 04, 2007 11:19 am

FIrst of all tnxs for the nice game. its freaking awsome !

but it would be nice if the strafejump bug is in it so whe can play defrag strafe maps.

i heard there will be 2 new gamemodes next update . is there any change that it will be a defrag mod ?

something wrong with the secondary nade launcher it doesnt trow a nade before your feets if you want to make a nade jump. it just trow the nade to the otherside

look in the begining of this movies on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0V7ZJf-C8iA

and check the nade droping for his feets doesnt do that in nexiuz

I already mentioned about getting a defrag style mod.

sYm you'd need to look fully into defrag to understand it, but it's not hard, it's basically going through maps as quick as possible using movement (and also weapons at times).

Would love some hard fast maps using movement + ramp jumps :)

But it would need to be a proper mod, for example so you can use all weapons effectively and NOT always have the laser as a start weapon...this way hagar could also be used for wall climbing, and the other weapons could be used :)

Wonder if someone could make a mod for it, if ideas and suggestions were given?

Urbanshenkie, indeed, the grenade launcher is different and the strafe-jump bug is fixed. But if I were you I wouldn't expect this to be changed, after all this is a different game, you have to get used to it's physics.

For me the hardest thing to get used to, is movement. I've been playing for I think 2 months and I'm still not very comfortable. You can do crazy tricks like any of those games but even if Nexuiz is fast, the tricks will never "look" as impressive because of the physics (a combination of friction, maxspeed, acceleration, etc.). I've never really played Quake 3 but from the videos I've seen, friction seems high so movement is "tighter". In Nexuiz friction is low so for anyone coming from Quakeworld-ish type of games, movement will seem lagged, as if you were sliding a bit. You can't run in one direction and then change to the opposite direction as fast. Well it's more complicated than just the friction setting, it won't work if you only change that one, other settings are related but it's the main thing I think.

From the searches I've done on this forum, I think many people tried making mods that made the game feel a bit more like other games, but none really took off. I know there are a few cfgs in the data.pk3 that change the physics (there's one for Q3 physics) but I've never tried them, maybe you could give them a try. I don't know if they'll change anything about weapons tho.

IMO it's best to get used to the way things are because the game is not that new, players have been playing it for a while, so unless you can convince a lot of people that it would be better if changed or make the changes yourself, you'll get frustrated and will eventually go back to another game. But if you stick to it (and you should), you will get used to it just like you got used to other games, I know it's frustrating because you have to relearn everything, but you will enjoy it immensely once you start feeling it.

EDIT: speedometer would be nice, I agree. I think it's better to hope for new features than changes in gameplay.

and they have a mode in defrag accuracy that is like shooting practice you need to shoot targets that pop up so fast as possible , acc maps like Acc_homer.pk3 , acc_penguinz

here is a video of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfPzGBSkYC8

I still think the friction is too low..imo it needs to be higher :(

but i think nifrek explained everything in one :)

has this something to do with the physics . Did they make the movement in nexiuz noob friendly or somthing ?

sv_user.qc for mod developers direct port of player physics code from engine to QC (this code is called by darkplaces engine if found, allowing great flexibility), highly optimized and more readable, no behavior changes, modify this for your own mods and enjoy

i found it on http://icculus.org/twilight/darkplaces/download.html

can whe use this file to make a nexiuz that has perfect quake physics ?

Nexuiz is based on Darkplaces, so you are able to use them in Nexuiz.

I think thats exactly what the developers dont want.
