KGB has a high compression rate. http://kgbarchiver.net/

the maps could be in a seperate highly compressed package.

what takes up the most space right now?

I doubt a 3 hour decompression time (no joke) will be any more convenient than downloading a few more megs off the internet

Uncompressed, the textures take up the most space, over 300 megs. Maps take up about 150 megs uncompressed. The music only takes up 51 megs, but that's 51 megs you can't compress.

In terms of better compressors, 7-zip or lzma (the same compression core) can compress about 50% better than zip, and are very fast to decompress. It takes forever to compress with this format, however.

In terms of finding free MODs: Maybe not, but I know for a fact I can get some free MIDIs from the FreeDoom project; I think they have 32 MIDIs. They don't sound as good as the music that Nexuiz comes with; no MIDI can, since the music does a very good job of establishing an atmosphere; but they will give the game music in a fraction of the space.

MODs are nice because you can control the sounds, allowing them to establish an atmosphere the way a MIDI can't.

I also used to be a musician of sorts. Maybe it's time to start making some techno again.

I have the music volume turned down, it gets in the way of me dying :D

I used to listen to the music, but a long time ago I had some sound issues and turned the game music from 11 all the way down to 0. It's been at 0 ever since.

I usually have a selection of MP3's playing, just recently I've been listenig to BBC Radio's Dad's Army (from BBC7) whilst playing Nexuiz and giggling madly, don't panic, don't panic.
..time to start making some techno again.

Lol, Nexuiz techno or NexTech :D

guys i'm doing 2.3 in 56.8 MB and 9 hrs have passed so far i think it will be ready by tommorow night and the compression rate goes down all the time so i think it will be fit into 50MB (less).

then i check how long it will take to unpack

think KGB rules i will make it into 50 and check the decompression time!!!

if not then some of you guys could help me drop a few megs (50 or so) to make the install time shorter
