Should this be enabled in Nexuiz 2.4 on the map starship?

Reflections on Starship?

Postby divVerent » Thu Jan 03, 2008 11:07 pm

Performance impact with moderate settings, 7600GT, on demo with me and 1 bot: 146fps average -> 71fps. With me and 15 bots: 120fps -> 37fps. This shot has less fps, as it was made with "ultimate" settings (just realtime world disabled).
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Would be nice, yes. I've seen the recent changes in DP and do like it. I'm guessing it's quite dependent on effects that are set. Is there a fallback? No reflections? Is that too big a difference?

Edit: I'd set some refraction and reflection shimmering in there. You could actually reduce the detail on reflections too by rendering alternate frames or lowering res. I forget if DP can do that or not.

If reflections are off, the map will look just like in 2.3.

Edit: it can't alternate frames, nor would it look good (but you can lower the resolution). And I don't think refraction would fit on starship... I rather see these glass faces as perfectly straight, considering everything else in the map is strictly geometrical aligned.

Yes, I think starship look better with reflexion, especially with others players models like on this screeshoot :

About performance, the de-recompiled starship in svn (without reflexion) is much faster (my fps increased by 50 % with an old ati card), so there is space to add reflexion.

I'm for it. Shouldn't be much of an issue if it can be toggled. Stylistically it fits in without seeming gaudy.

I would also say yes, but only if it isn't much of an effort (apparently not, as it seems to be implemented already anyway). The reason why I say this is because starship is a bad performing map anyway (FPS wise) and I don't see it being played too often - not only for the FPS reason ;)

Badly performing? Starship performs quite well for me with reflections disabled - especially after the recompile (with reflections off, it gained about 40% fps).

I like it but it looks unnatural atm beacuse i can see the stars. maby it looks bether without the sky under the ship or with lesser reflection.

I voted yes , but lesser reflection

So you'd prefer the glass to be a full mirror, and not transparent?
