Hmmm , How about

Nexuiz : "Let the carnage begin"
OR
Nexuiz : "cute fuzzy bunnies"

I'm leaning towards the second one

RE: LAYOUT (Am I posting in the right thread or should I post back in the old one?)

I'm open to suggestions, but please don't tell me negative things about my work without having a positive solution.

I did. :?

Ok, I'm probably too late with my own suggestions. *sigh*

1) One thing I never did like about websites is too many fonts used. You are using, how many, five fonts atm? It gives the viewer the impression that it's ragtag.

2) The font you used is not ideal for normal text. It's a primarily a header text (hence its thickness), and using it for writing normal text makes the text almost unreadable.

3) Fonts used should first be legible, and second should NOT take away the focus from IMAGES.

4) There should be as little variation in font sizes as possible.

5) Finally, shininess. The Shininess of the alientrap logo contrasts rather horribly with the fuzzy matte gray of the rest of the site. It looks out of place. If you're aiming for shininess, then everything should shine. It's not good to very different styles like matte and shine. It jars the senses.

6) Putting a flash video in the front page is not a good idea I think. The front page should introduce Nexuiz with some teaser shots and text. Provide links instead to video and etc files. But not on the front page. At least that's my opinion. Don't overload the viewer, instead tease him into becoming interested.

SITES I LIKE:

1) http://www.nuclear-dawn.net/

Note how they used only 3 very LEGIBLE fonts. None of the fancy fonts.

2) The alientrap forums. yes. THIS forum. I often wonder why the Nexuiz homepage is not in the same style as this forum. zeroSpace template. I like the blue on blue with the faint horizontal lines running across. It's CLEAN. You can read everything without straining your eyes.

3) http://www.affuniverse.com/home/

The website of the team I'm currently contributing with. Clean readable fonts. It's still WIP though. :P

OK that's all. /me runs away

Hmmm weird
I agreed with everything you said oblivion but the two site you linked to ... well, ... argh is all.
Guess it's all in the interpretation.
And really quite subjective.
And because I got a really small screen
...
/me runs away in opposite direction to Oblivion.

Verdana and xscale. Can you help me identify the other 3 fonts I used?

Oblivion wrote:2) The font you used is not ideal for normal text. It's a primarily a header text (hence its thickness), and using it for writing normal text makes the text almost unreadable.

...I only used it for header text? (the catch phrase is technically a header)

Oblivion wrote:3) Fonts used should first be legible, and second should NOT take away the focus from IMAGES.

But headers should draw more attention than body text, should they not?

Oblivion wrote:4) There should be as little variation in font sizes as possible.

Not sure where you got this idea from... Though I don't really see how it even fits into you list of complaints as the only font that's a bit smaller is the news text...

I disagree with this.

Welcome to the new internet based off quick click through social bookmarking websites. You have a few seconds to make an impression on the user. A video is a fabulous way to show a user what the game is like. I don't think it's 'overloading the viewer'. I think it's giving an honest look at what the game is like. Screenshots and text can be misleading.

xscale is a smoothly curved sans serif font. I'm not sure how your eyes are havcing a hard time with it.

Now it sounds like you're mixing your arguments together. So AT is clean, therefore it doesn't put strain on your eyes? I think you're letting your font preference impede your ability to properly determine the 'cleanliness' of a website layout. Obviously a forum is going to had a 'clean layout', it's mostly tabular data, it practically organizes itself.

If you want to talk about legibility for a second, how about a some sort of dark border to distinguish a difference between the background and the white text with an orange glow in the header?

I'm sorry the site is not really a style you prefer. Please try and take some time to see how the community will benefit from it's layout though. While you might not like this that or the other than, the new user may find the elements extremely helpful.

In the future, please use the The Nexuiz Brand thread to critique design. This thread is for 'The Nexuiz Slogan and Catch Phrase Suggestions'.

/me punctures Rad Ished's bike with a nex.

Hokay then!

Other examples:

http://www.eve-online.com/ <- not too good. Too packed with info. But I like the color combinations
http://www.warsow.net/

I especially like HalfLife2's site:

http://orange.half-life2.com/

Simplicity is more appealing. :P

Yeha these sites are all nice, but you don't want the Nex site to be LIKE the hl2 site do you?
I like Zeds design, is there any chance it'll actually be used or something like it? -z-?

My name's not Zed, it's actually Tyler or -z- :-P

I talked to Vermeulen about the design. Overall he's pleased with it. I have smoothed out any qualms he had about it. Now it's up to the community to help me bring it to the end.

From this point on, lets keep all design questions in the other thread. Only slogan/catch phrase suggestions here :D

I thought I was the only one who browsed wikipedia looking for the worst games ever. I found the "Big Rigs Over the Road Racing" too. I want that "you're winner" screen, I just made a project for an extracurricular thing. It was a board game and it had a "starting" space, a "you're winner" space, and a label in the bottom "Made in North Korea".

I liked the part in the wikipedia article that said they released an "update" that made the bots drive but never cross the finish line.
