Thanks for trying.

Okay, so what most likely happens: Your internet connection isn't "broken", just "slow" (I mean... 5 hours to download Nexuiz... ewww). The default for cl_netfps is 72, which means the client will try to send 72 input packets to the server and apparently your internet connection just can't handle this without dropping packets left and right.

edit: Oh, can you try the highest value for cl_netfps still working for you?

Hah, those particles without textures remind me of War§ow. I like them (except for the part about not having any textures :) )
I haven't had any of those issues though, I'm gonna try the hotfix now. The only thing I've noticed is the sunken or floating items, but that's not really a problem.[/i]

No lag on my Mac now!
Performance increased also a little (or is it just me?) :P

First time I applied the hotfix it looked like Mirio's issues.

But then I downloaded Nex2.4 again, applied the fix on the new folder, deleted the old one and pasted the new one in its place. Singleplayer works, servers are online and working.
Overall an awesome job!
Thanks, esteel!

EDIT: A friend of mine has an odd thing going on. After he applied the Hotfix on Vista, he's got that "Testing only"-Text as seen in the SVN. But I'm pretty sure, he got the official release. :? Strange.
Is this because the fix is in "testing" stage for now?

Sometimes I can play with 30-40 but sometimes 20 is to much and I have to set it to 10.

In Nexuiz 2.3 I did not have that problem at all, I was always laggy but now it is almost not playable.

The TESTING ONLY is intentional, it is there to prevent people from putting the hotfix as is on download sites. It will be removed when it is done.

You can manually remove it by "showbrand 0" on the console, or in autoexec.cfg.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

I played online yesterday and my strange sound bug reappeared with the hotfix depending on which server I was playing. It didn't go away until I was on a 2.3-server.
At least now I got some error messages, I can show. This is what it looks like:

Heyho.

My brother currently is here on a visit so we take the time to play Naxuiz 2.4. :)
He (on WinXP) had also the crash on startup so we took the HOTFIX which workes perfectly to fix the startup issue.

However while we are playing we once had some serious lagging. To say first: He has a WLAN connection to my LAN so it may be this issue. However we had 1000 ping for approx 10 seconds and pl. of 72.

While this we could read the message (on his lagging side):
Code: Select all
sendto returned error: WSAEINTR

I hope I read this right - he plays on my TV since his Laptop monitor is broken.
As said I don't know if this is related to the WLAN connection but I wanted to let you know.

EDIT: Apart from that console message we also have the same lag effect in 2.4 without the fix. So it's probably a problem with our WLAN. :)

Wlan is bad for playing.. it really tends to create packetloss and random ping now and then. Even if my laptop just 2m away from the accesspoint i'm having issues so i prefer real lan with cables ;)

[GF]HarryButt: No idea about those console messages at the moment..

[BOT]Misio PL: That problem should be solved now too, not sure when the next version of the hotfix will be available but i'll (try to) update the first post when i'm sure a new version is available

Among the changes for the 'next' version of the hotfix:
- further improvements of the 'lag' fix, even smoother now and less problems with slow connections too
- less problems with quake 1/3 items (some item names conflicted)
- minor menu changes
- docu updates
- fixed the Mac OSX rotating hud problem ?
- fixed more sound problems ?

erm ive got the same problem.. i dled nexuiz again and now i noticed that there are 28 files in the hotfix and 28 in the main directory of nexuiz so all files would be replaced O_o that looks quite strange to me so which particular files do i have to replace to apply this hotfix?? i am using mac os x 3.9 etcetc
