Lan game browser?

Postby Asraniel » Thu Apr 20, 2006 10:49 am

i just showed nexuiz to a few friends of mine at a lan. they all loved it. only small problem was that we had to connect manualy with the console to the gameserver in the lan. not only that, but the key to open the console does not work in the menu, so we first had to click on instant action to create a game, then open the console and connect to the server.

other than that it was great. (expect perhaps the flags that fall outside of the world in capture the flag, but ive seen that this is fixed in the next version)

Just make sure your server runs on port 26000 and is inside the same network. Then it will be discovered by Nexuiz.. If not you will have to make the server public so that it tells the master server its there so that the master server tells your buddies about the server. That however is bad if outside people can not connect to that server..
Another solution for this is to have an own master server and redirect all your dns server to point to that one..

There is an overwrite (shift-escape) that will open the console even if the menu is visible.. :) Press escape again to close it.

thank you very much. perhaps another tab for lan games would be good? because i didnt even search for it in the server list, i was just asuming that there were only the only the internet games.

and why is there another key for the console when in menu? but well. now i know it so im happy :-)

The shift-escape fallback was created, because the default keys for the console ` and ~ don't work on most non-english keyboard layouts (such as german e.g.).

Turn off software firewall's

Don't use Instant Action , create a proper lan game from the client or host
a standalone diedicated server
