Clan match : -V-ortex vs [o]ptimal - 4v4CTF - 04.12.2008

Last night, -V-ortex and [o]ptimal clans had their first official CTF match (we have played unplanned scrimmage matches before). [o] played three maps with Vortex where Vortex took the win for each map. We had a decent turnout of spectators with around 30 people on the server total.

My commentary...

Facing Worlds :
-V- started off with applying pressure early with most of their team pushing toward the middle of the map and fighting from the hill. [o] started off badly with us trying to establish our roals and ending up with almost the entire team playing defense for the first quarter of the match. We eventually figured out who was going offense, but it was an uphill climb and we didn't have any gameplans for attacking. I switched from outer defense (sniping) to inner defense halfway through the match, but I found it difficult to stay stacked with enough health to keep up a good defense. At some point, fewer -V- players were attacking, but they already had a good lead. It was badly played by us and well-played by -V-. Score : 220 - 105 for -V-ortex

MikeCTF:
This is a map where we typically do a very good job. Unfortunately, we had a very rough start where there was some miscommunication and mkzelda had to jump out of the match and allow nifrek to take his place (while I unlocked teams). During the commotion, -V- got their first capture, and another capture soon after that. We found a way to get (I think) 3-4 captures in a row and get the match to within 10 points, but we weren't able to take the lead while -V- held out for the win. Score : 181 - 158

Lavaflag:
According to -V-, we gave a helluva fight here. It was hard to tell for me because I personally lost some focus on this map after the previous two matches. We kept a bit more pressure and focus in the middle area of the map and kept a slight lead (~10 pts) throughout the entire match until the last 2 minutes when -V- made a cap that turned the tide in their favor. If memory serves, our defense was out of position after that cap and they got another cap immediately which sealed the deal with a score of 180 - 153 for -Vortex.

Here are the three demos, in the order in which we played:

There's another clan match scheduled for tomorrow, sunday 04/13/2008, at 3:00pm EST with the new clan, Militia, taking on Rev0lution clan. Look on the public server list around that time for the "Clan Match" server or check in IRC.
