Making gameplay recordings on slow machines

Postby qubodup » Mon Apr 21, 2008 11:19 pm

Hello, I have an Athlon XP 2000 + GeForce Fx 5200 Debian Linux system and would like to make high definition (1280x720) gameplay recordings with high quality settings. I relized that maybe, maybe it is actually possible.

Step one: Record a game demo

Step two: Set the screen recorder (for example xvidcap) to 1fps and start recording

Step three: Start Nexuiz on best settings and set the playback speed to 0.04 of standard speed (is this possible? how?) Start playing back the game. Wait 25 minutes for each minute of gameplay.

Step four: Close everything (don't forget to save the video)

Step five: Start a sound recording app

Step six: Start nexuiz on lowest quality settings and playback the demo in normal speed

Step seven: Speed up the fps of the video to 25fps and mix video and audio

What do you think? is it possible?

Yes, it is and it's quite easy to do, since Nexuiz has built-in video capturing, which will capture videos with a constant framerate, no matter how slow the actual demo renders.
See http://www.forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?t=2974

However you should make shure you have plenty of free disk space before you start, since the output will be an uncompressed avi, so it'll get huge (esp. at high def).

I only ever have to do that slow recording trick on my 500mhz k6-2. You'll compromise the sound but most people overlap it with shitty nu metal music anyway

esteel's binds handle this perfectly.

When using the in-game method to capture video, during capturing the avi it will slow down and sound ugly but the resulting avi will be perfect..
But at least some music is good in videos, maybe toned down so you still hear the effects :)
