Enhanced announcers sounds - Torus' with some tweaks

Postby [-z-] » Fri Jun 20, 2008 3:44 pm

I had my buddy Johnny (the guy who made the last flag sounds) take a look at the new sounds by torus introduced in 2.4.2.

He sent me a bunch of wavs. Before I convert them to ogg and package them I'd like to get some opinions.

I don't like this version, sorry. Torus' version is better for me.

I see what he did there. I'd like to try this in game. Maybe it's to "noisy" to hear in game.

All the sounds have been designed to convey certain feelings to go along with the flow of the game. A flag score or team taking the lead gives you a sound of accomplishment. Generator decaying or losing the lead is a feeling of loss, etc. With the last sounds, as soon as I started hearing the sound, I didn't need to hear the words. Words just become icing on the cake.

In general I do like this combination, however, the sounds that "surround" the phrases of the speaker should only applied to real "events", and should also probably fit to this event.

for example I'd love to hear versions of the capture/redcapture/bluecapture to have some kind of cheering in the background with an overall positive attitude or something like that (I know that other games did it similarly, but its good for a reason)

That's a cool idea, I'll definitely run it by him.

Are there any sounds in this pack that just "rub you the wrong way" and you'd like to see changed before a "release"?

25kills.wav and redteamtakesthelead.wav rubs me the wrong way.

Well, the idea of implementing actual sounds with the voices is great, but the sounds in that pack just aren't gonna cut it. I also noticed that your friend distorted the voice a bit. That makes the voices WAY more understandable! (Off-topic: BTW, I dont want to be rubbed the wrong way. Sounds creepy.)

For me, almost no sounds were just right :( Maybe the taking the lead was encouraging, but none of them has gave me "the right feel" for that event. :?

They sound really dark and scary. Which is nice sometimes. Could be a nice .pk3 for those that likes that.
