Updating question for a Linux newbe

And there is a setting to show hidden files (just like in Windows) graphically if you prefer that. However there are so many hidden files in your standar /home directory that I think it's not worth displaying the hidden files unless you really need to do something with them. To display them there's (I believe) a similar way to go about doing that as on Windows.
