Awesome Ideas

Just a thought spewing forth from having too much caffeine.

Does anyone think it would be a good idea for me to make maps based on the structures of molecules/conformations/orbitals etc. from the world of chemistry?

Anyone? Suggestions? Slaps in the face?

Once I've tried to make the coffeine molecule into a map. I couldn't do the right angles :(
I'm not saying it is impossible, but not in Radiant.

Yeah I dont think it would quite be possible to get angles correct, but I might just do CTF map of hexane Chair conformer with the hydrogens as platforms. Could be kinda neat...

Wonder how I could make bonds look like bonds. Might use water with player clips around it or something.

You are quite pessimistic.

I think it could work, even with Radiant. Some experimenting is obviously required, and it may cause some problems working with "non-right" angles.

If you know how to use trigonometry in 3D, you can use the Modify->Arbitrary Rotation tool and could get some neat results.

I have some ideas:
Make the sky an actual sky, not a ceiling where you constantly bang your head on...
Make it so players can actually walk around instead of banging against useless and extremely stupidly placed invisible walls...
uhh
that's about it

I didnt even know there was an arbitary rotation tool... at the moment I've just make an approximation of the chair conformer. Its very very approximate. The axial carbons are angled far too sharply I think. Once I finish playing around with it I'll post it here and then figure out how to make something a bit nicer.

Scaling the atoms is going to be done wrong just for the sake of play. Scaling a hydrogen and a carbon correctly would be funny.

Hmm I keep getting more ideas. I fancy making a DM map of the Square Planar energy levels now.

EDIT: Oh and its the boat conformer I'm making *facepalm*

I had wanted to make chair so I could see what it actually looked like in 3d space.
