Onslaught

Postby Reboant » Fri Aug 01, 2008 1:41 pm

Hi folks.

I use to be a fan of Onslaught in UT2k4 but got sick of all the bugs such as my vehicle getting stuck on a wall and not being able to eject Also, not to mention the bots tracking you behind solid objects from the other side of the map where you can't see them to defend yourself (just a couple out many complaints).

Anyway, I've been looking for a good FPS I could play in linux and found Nexuiz .Talk about a blast from the past. This thing really brings back memories of playing Q1 all night long and ticking everyone off by keeping them awake yelling at my pc. :)

I was just wondering if someone could tell me if more features will be added to the onslaught mod.Right now its kind of boring.Don't expect to have vehicles but a few things such as an animated map showing which nodes are being attacked and which ones are locked would really be handy.Something like a link gun to build and repair nodes is also nice to have. How about some kind of a weapons locker so we don't have to wait around for weapons to respawn? Just a few suggestions and thanks for a cool game.

The Link Gun is definitely one of the coolest features in UT2003/2004, but I don't think that any of Nexuiz' weapons would fit to take its place unless you want the developers to implement a completely new weapon, which has to be balanced and placed on all of the maps and stuff.
Maybe the Crylink could become useful for Onslaught nodes, cause it's kinda the black sheep of the roster. :P

Help us make it more popular ;)
I'd definitely be up for some new things... because now that we can use CSQC...
-) the minimap is already done,
-) adding weapons is POSSIBLE (***but not easy*** <- at least from what I've seen, so no, no weapon requests before I tried making one :P)

the Nex secondary (zoom) is replaced in MinstaGib with the Laser. binds can be reconfigured anyway, so nothing will be lost if it was to be replaced. i have zoom on a key, which i never use anyway. :P

reminder: zoom works with other weapons too!

Thanks for the replies guys.

So basically the mod will always be very limited by not having the things needed the most? If so it kind of sucks but I guess we'll have to make due with whats given to us huh?

The mini map looks promising.Any chance it will be integrated into the hud so we won't have to toggle it?

It seems more like "yeah, we're working on stuff, but it's difficult, so bear with us as we try things out".

Keep in mind that Nexuiz is developed basically by hobbyists. There are no real donations and all work is done in the developers' spare time for free. New features make it into the game, but not at the lightning speed you might hope for. Also, if you really want something sooner, you can contribute too. ;)

Yes I understand and hope I didn't offend anyone.Just happy that new features will be added.

I don't know how to program and don't know how to create maps or models but if there are other things I can help with let me know.

The current Onslaught in the latest version of Nexuiz seems to be heading on the right path. But of course there is still a lot to be done. First of all, the models for the generator and nodes still look very simple and bad so that will need updates soon. After that, a minimap will be necessary. Then as the third and most difficult thing, this gametype (and others too) will be also needing a few types of vehicles. Of course all of it will happen slowly, but I hope that in the end the ONS game type here will be more similar to the one in 2k4 and fully complete.
