Galt Server

Postby Barfly » Sun Sep 14, 2008 5:07 pm

Last two days everybody is complaining about lag, actually it seems to be spikes in lag..

funny thing is I'm not having any issue at all.
I'm thinking it's the hurricane since the server is in Texas and maybe its some routing issue?

Galt Lag? Maybe some

Postby Diseased Fangs » Tue Sep 16, 2008 12:56 am

It has sporadically lagged, and I've had a couple notices from the server that the load was really heavy and the the sysadmins had been notified.

But only a few times. Maybe it's a regional phenomena?

I've also noticed players running straight into walls and corners at random. Happening a little more often than usual.

So I frag em. Mercy killing, doncha know?

No, that means the the nexuiz process did not get enough computer time. Either it was an other process that was too heavy on the cpu or that the nexuiz server itself created a huge load on the cpu. If that happens too often it might hint that the server is not powerful enough of what its doing.

I could see this happening at BZ times, I think at one time he was running 3 game modes off the same server, now I believe its just CTF and CTF Hook.

EDIT:

I was just playing and the notice came up again, it was barely playable with 4 players :(
Seems to be sporadic though .

Hi Barfly -- I am looking into it. No reason it should be unplayable with 4 players.. The server isn't bogged down either, my stats show plenty of free CPU and RAM over time. It's probably short bursts of something, like an errant cron job.

I was just in there when you made the changes and added the new map, the people that are complaining about the lag still is likely because of the FPS on the new map..dunno what changes ya made to the server but that was a bad time to check it when you made the announcement cus my FPS went down a shitload and I'm sure thats what the issue was with others in the game, they said it was lag but I think it was FPS, that map gave me 30-40% less FPS than my average.

There have been "Server Notices" posted and that the admin has been notified..does that show up on your log files?

Tnx again for running the server :D

Sure does Barfly, but it still doesn't give me much insight into the cause :)
