I noticed since several months you didn't enjoy working on this project, but you stayed and keep adding features (like the team radar to just name one) or bugfixes to get a new nexuiz version released in good condition with fun and balanced gameplay. And unfortunately you almost only received harsh criticisms from the new active players base, whereas your decisions have always been positive, like for the 2.4.x release, adding a detonate delay for the rl or counting weapon refire with individual timer. Big thanks for your huge contribution, keep in mind under your management player base doubled in 2 years, so you are just victim of your success. :)

About nexuiz immediate future, I think 2.5 is almost ready, it need some testing to find the last obvious bugs. Experimentations have been made about score systems, items, etc., now it's time to take decision and set good default values. I've a complete confidence on divVerent's judgment to still make nexuiz 2.5 a fun experience for new and experimented players.

After 2.5, I'm agree with torus, the code base is solid, but the artistic contents hasn't evolved as fast. Player models are 4 years olds, same for some ammo items, so it seem a good start to focus on this aspect already begin by the highly unexpected and valuable Tenshihan's sound pack. And it seem there are some good modelers in the community. ;) On the code side, logic wants more objects to be managed client side like gibs, projectiles, players, etc. but that will be more difficult without an experimented coder. Also that will be the moment to see what all the complaining (and often arrogant) people can bring to the game except criticizes, but I don't expect anything serious from them...

Release should include terencehill's code too (if everything is ok with it).

OMFG NOEZ!!1

/me has gone all emo now

Thanks for all the work you put into Nexuiz, sorry to hear that you didn't have as much fun developing it has we've had playing it. I hope that the community can sustain the development and general upkeep of the project

Though I must say, the first set of bullet points are quickly solved by liberal use of the banhammer, because deliberate insults, especially as a reply to contributions to the community, and definitely promoting the use of illegal drugs are quite worthy of a ban IMHO. Say, have you ever tested the 3kV isolation rating of most people's ethernet ports? With an RJ45 to BS1363 cable?

Let me first say: Thank you very much for your work, divVerent!

Actually I am (or was) planning to follow div's call for developers and already have been in contact with him. I didn't want to hang it out in public too early, because I know that I will have steep learning curve. Or rather a long one, since I don't have as much time for spending on Nexuiz development as I would like to have. I surely will never be able to invest as much committment as divVerent .

With divVerent leaving the project, tZork thinking about leaving and looking at the list of reasons why div left I have to reconsider my decision. So far the Nexuiz development team, as much as the community, have consisted of affable people, at least that is my impression. As much as div I'm not interested in a mud fight. It's my spare time that I would invest and I want to enjoy what I'm doing in my spare time.

I do not agree that a "void to fill in by new people" is necessary or even good. AFAIK, it has been possible for new developers to join the team all the time, if there were any who wanted to.

So, where is the Nexuiz development team heading now? Can we expect a consolidation and rely on tZork's banhammer or can I expect the social situation around the development to get worse? Is it worthwhile for me to learn QuakeC and take a loooong bath in the Nexuiz code base?

PS: currently I'm on vacation 8), so I can relax a bit before taking up the challenge

Farewell Div. Sad to see a truly mutually exclusive developer go.

meh :(

I guess everything's gonna go bad from now on (worse than it is already).

Sorry for being that pessimistic, but that's the way I feel actually. More and more of the long-established great personalities the community once had are withdrawing one or the other way. Now the king himself left. Well, I can't change. Farewell div. I always enjoyed the moments we were in contact, playing or chatting. And I'll always love you ;)

Well, I'll stay in PB, so PB needs still will see code... so you sure still can expect all sorts of fun. I however will no longer code for any of the requests posted here, on IRC, or sent to me in person.

If you want a feature, or a bug fixed - do it on your own.

If you actively contribute and already have got a part done, ask me on IRC if you need help for the rest. I can tell you a lot about how the engine and QC work.

Oh, and someone please help terencehill with his engine patch. He knows how to do it, and gets forward - but he needs help to get done faster, it is quite much work. I had told him what is left.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

BRLOGENSHFEGLE DOESNT LOL

Thanks divVerent for your hard work. I'm looking forward to the future fun times we will have, having you in the PB clan has already been a blast so far.

It will be interesting to see what will come of Nexuiz now. Even if Nexuiz would freeze as is now I would still play it for a long time to come and I am sure others would too.
Now with new shiny avatar.
