Nexuiz 2.0 Video

Postby Vermeulen » Tue Jun 06, 2006 6:55 am

I'll post this on the main site, and send it to a few news sites, but before I wanted to post on here for some feedback.

Most of the clips were just me and Lordhavoc playing with 2 bots in some of the new maps. Its not designed to be a fast paced video like the previous trailers, this one is more to show off just the normal playing experience.

I also posted it on youtube here:

I thought the wmv was fine. Not bad format at all. The way you guys put it it makes it seem like such bad format you might not be able to see.

I really enjoyed the new maps and new effects seen in the video. Although the changing music is a little distracting, I think it's appropriate because this video is supposed to represent gameplay instead of being a trailer that shows off graphics. When the Nexuiz logo appears at the beginning of the video, a cool sound effect should play, or the announcer should say "Welcome to Nexuiz". Also, the text at the end should stay there just a bit longer before fading away.

Yeah the video is really cool. The improvements upQuark mentioned are good but i suppose its almost a little late for such a change :).

Vermeulen: Would you announce some of the news sites that accept the video? Might be nice to read some of the stories and maybe users reponses (at least on news sites where this is possible)

Bl@nk: Well .wmv can be played on windows but i guess many other systems will have problems with those. Yes its possible to get a player that can use the windows dlls to display such a video but those dlls are not freely available.

And remember in five days everyone can take a look at the game itself!

Thank you for the nice video. Something of one of the new maps remainds me on Doom. Looks absolute great. And the best thing is at the end of the video. The new release date: 11.6 Yeeeeeaaaaah :p
Only 5 days left.

Just 5 days, 13 hours and 23 minutes left :)

@Vermeulen: i agree with upQuark, the intro logo could use some sound ;)
And don't you have a better quality version of that intro? It looks really ugly with all those artifacts. Perhaps you should use the alientrap logo from SVN instead.
And please get rid of those "divx" watermarks (iirc there was an option in the divx control panel to disable them).

Bl@nk: Well .wmv can be played on windows but i guess many other systems will have problems with those. Yes its possible to get a player that can use the windows dlls to display such a video but those dlls are not freely available.

And the DLLs are useless on any other platform than x86, so MacOS/Linux/ppc (and many other platforms) users can't play WMVs.

Well, I'm absolutely despising .wmv because of its closed nature - but I guess it's okay to offer a .wmv version in this case as long as there are alternatives.

The .avi version comes with the DivX logo displayed in the lower right corner - is there a clean (high quality) master version somewhere we could e.g. use XviD or Ogg Theora with (the latter being the native video format on Linux)?

if some mac users get problems with wmv reading, they can download the flip4mac components (free wmv playback in quicktime, have to pay to get the encoding feature)

Cool video! Thanks for getting it up.

So, how firm is the 11th looking, then?

Well i think as this is the date mentioned in the video which will be send to some news sites it would be very very bad is the release date were to be changed. So i would think unless hell opens up its the 11th :)
