Vehicles in Nexuiz

Postby Hyside » Sun Feb 08, 2009 12:32 am

I know this has probably been brought up before, but what would you guys think of idea of vehicles in Nexuiz?

Could the concept be really that hard to implement?

( if not in Nexuiz, I would love to see it in Zymotic! )

A major problem with vehicles is that they require fairly decent physics to implement. Darkplaces uses what is essentially Q1 physics which only supports the translation of rectangular, grid aligned bounding boxes. It might be possible to use TWIG to implement vehicles at a later date.

Personally, I think vehicles are hard to do right. A lot of times they can just screw up a really fun game.

no... nexuiz is a fast paced fps..... if you put vehicles in there..... you'd have to

Make even larger maps..... being fast paced means smaller more open or large more enclosed maps... maps that cause you to meet someone on every other turn you make.... vehicles arent equiped for that kind of momvent and would slow nexuiz action down.

I noticed something strange; now that turrets exist in nexuiz every map DOESN'T suddenly have turrets in them! Only maps that were designed with turrets placed in them have turrets!

Your argument is false and duplicitous (its goal is to suggest to developers who may wish to add such things that they should not do so, under the guise that it would hurt the game and maps, when in reality it would only hurt you in straying from your potential demands (as in, by your thinking, a developer that was working on vehicles would have less time to work on whatever project you want them to work on))

I have allready made maps that are large enough for panzer divisions to fit comfortably in, many of such maps infact:

You could be:
ROMMEL in Desert Castles!
Michael Wittmann in Red Star Republic!
Colonel Hans von Luck in Spire Control!

All of these people were very bad people and you should not aspire to be like them. They are dead now; God choose not to allow them to be on earth alive forever... food for thought. If you choose to be like them you will not live forever.

If anyone desires and have the will to create vehicles then they will be created.
Many people desire to create vehicles for nexuiz but do not have the will to create them.
But what can you do to make it happen? Learn quake C and code it your damned self :P
(Nothing is made for want of it: you must create it for it to exist.) Vehicles would add yet another option for the mapper: it would be good.

Careful now this is becoming politically sensitive for a large section of this forum.

Mentioning God?

Yes, but it's still true; they are not alive anylonger. One might say that is the natural cause of events but if medical technology had advanced faster than it did or a miracle happened perhapse those previously named people who will remain nameless would have survived the millenium... it probably would have been a joyous occasion... you know with their country FINALLY aquiring the rest of europe via politics this time! (EU),

Actually it would have been bittersweet: what they failed to hold on to with tanks the politicians have achieved through mere talk. He he he.... it shows how much they FAILED: talk beat out tanks :)

They are probably rocking in their graves (knowing not what way to spin: the goal was completed but not in the way they wanted it to be completed).

Vehicles.

Stay on topic please. Your ramble has nothing to do with vehicles in Nexuiz. Also, don't bring politics or religion into this forums, as yes, those two topics are sensitive to people and has no place in a gaming community forum.

Lool, you are funny.

Btw, there has indeed been a lot of threads about vehicles and there's also a video somewhere of a vehicle that div0 had on a test run. Dunno where that video is, but if I recall correctly introducing vehicles would be hard or cause some trouble. For more information you can try searching these forums and read up on that, Hyside.
