[ Collaboration ] Front Page Video for Nexuiz 2.5

With 2.5 in the not too distant future, we want to be ready to show off some of the new features Nexuiz has to offer. New weapons, new effects, new maps, scoreboard, radar and a PILE OF OPTIONS (returned to and expanded upon) in the menu.

Current Content Suggestions
- Cool frags/situations with every weapon, primary and secondary modes. Trying to not repeat maps between each take. If possible use new official maps.
- Race and ONS modes
- Try to show new CTF flags and ammo pickups
- A quick walk around the new menu

Well the most important thing is to have a NICE looking video or maybe several that shows off the next Nexuiz release. So this is something for people using a current svn checkout!!!
And thus all the new stuff should be visible at least, maybe even highlighting them. All the new guns, the new effects, the new hud, the changed menu, stuff like the new coronas that light up depending on how much of them is visible, the ballistic bullets, the new maps and gamemodes..

We've tried this before but didn't have much luck.

We're looking for a motivated individual or group of players that can work together to produce an enticing video for www.nexuiz.com to replace the current one.


I know there are plenty of talented video editors and demo cutters in this mix, many whom has already submitted some epic clips and montages. I'd love to see some of that sort of content in this video.

Lets discuss a little what to show on this movie. I think it should be an impressive video with an extremely simple script, just like the approach taken for the 2.4 video, So this is what I would like to see for 2.5:

- Cool frags/situations with every weapon, primary and secondary modes. Trying to not repeat maps between each take. If possible use new official maps.
- Race and ONS modes
- Try to show new CTF flags and ammo pickups
- A quick walk around the new menu

Please anyone having something worth to be displayed in this movie please upload the demo and post here. This way it can be exported to video later for those wanting to record, using the same settings (brightness, fps, sizes, etc) for all takes.

I will soon have lots of AVIs of the race records done on my server in 1280x720, ultimate quality. If that's of any use, I can upload them somewhere, or provide the .dem files.

To make it good, you ultimately need to have one person that records the footaga in HQ and also edits it, so this person should be provided the demos and times of the scenes that are worth to be included.

To keep the length short you'll have to be picky about the scenes (or, well, features) you want to show, and you also have think about how maybe several features could be shown at once in one scene. Just as example, even though there are a few new little graphical effects here and there, I wouldn't create a scene specifically for each effect, nor try hard to have every effect included somewhere at least once.

Try to group changes and probably work with texts to make stuff clear that needs to be made clear, but only if you want the movie to be in some kind of "movie trailer" style.

As mand1nga noted a proper list is needed for what should be in the video. I will update the original post with suggestions.

Tbh to make something good is extremely difficult and also needs one person who is experienced in doing game movies, otherwise the movie will just seem like a pool of scenes thrown together.

Please lets focus on having something first, without transitions, just raw in-game action like the 2.4 trailer. I really think that should be good enough.
Then if we get some extremely skilled editor and enough time we can add transitions later. Otherwise I think nobody will miss them.

I think the "new" Nexuiz music theme fits perfectly a video of this kind. I strongly recommend using it
