2.5 Issues (Minsta Community)

Postby Xandria » Sat Apr 25, 2009 1:55 pm

Overall I'm quite happy with 2.5 in some aspects. I can now run decent settings with a decent FPS and hardly any dropping so great job on that.

After talking to a lot of the minsta people we as a majority really don't like some of the new things in 2.5.

Shading effects - They make players near impossible to see. Switching to a 2.4.2 server after adjusting your brightness or using r_showsurfaces 3 shouldn't be needed to do just to play a game. Overall they are just way over the top for a game mode where you need pretty good accuracy.

The sound effects - Footsteps encourage people to hide and camp. Yeah I know people will always do that if they want to but to be encouraging everyone to do it can only hurt in the end.

Aiming - While aiming in dark areas is hard. Now even if you aim randomly with a few shots you are bound to hit something. Anti lag is cool and all but it seems like you can obviously miss and still get a hit. I miss quite a bit and I have noticed this.

Lag - People with over 100 pings are seemingly getting quite an advantage with them glitching across the screen but they have some perfect aim - This is all part of an experimental process I know so I'm not really too against it as it's being developed and changed all the time.

One last thing. It's little and probably pointless. No one is too fond of the pig body like new nex model. It resembles something like a rolled up carpet or a headless pig :)

I know we are only a small side of Nexuiz but a side nonetheless. I'd personally be happy if we just got rid of the darkness. I know the rest can be classed as evolution but the darkness is certainly a step backwards in our eyes. Maybe some other players of this wonderful game mode can post here?

What Nex model? Pic or link to some?
And how weird is your mind if any of the models resembles a pig? :P Or any other animal for that matter :D

I don't quite agree with this, the idea of footsteps is so that you can listen and understand where about's the opponent is more accurately in correlation to where you are.

I don't understand how this encourages camping? Do you mean because they try to be more silent so don't move as much? If so surely then there's no more of a problem as people could move around silently without footsteps before, so this should help. That's something that should be up to the player though, how they want to play.

Can you give an example of how you think it's encouraging camping, or how it will only hurt more in the end.

Well the way I've been playing is listening to footsteps near to me and then diving into a shaded area and picking off that person.

It even encourages me to do it.

I have also noticed how much easier it becomes while sitting in a shaded corner, when you hear footsteps you know a player is near you so you ready yourself to aim.

Oh as for the gun

Image

It sorta looks like

:PImage
or
The headless pig which you can google. I did see a pic and put it here but it's like hugely inappropriate

Obviously take away it's legs and there you have it! It's a nex!

and the older model:

I prefer that it actually looks like a gun

I actually preferred the old model the one you say that looks like a pig :P (and i can see what you mean).

However it's just personal preference, there should be an option for you to be able to change it Xandria, esteel or someone would probably know.

Good point, that makes sense, and to be honest i'm sure many people would do that to give themselves an advantage but then again that's greater awareness for you, but I can understand why you don't like it because I know you believe that minsta is just run around and whoever has the best aim wins that way and people shouldn't slow down and camp (I know you disliked my playstyle in atleast my first maybe all my tournament games but I was having to lead with most of my shots because of the server being so bad for me which meant I was going to lose in an open firefight more then time then I would win and since there was only those bad servers for me I had to play more tactical..I think it was that weird 2.4.2 / 2.5 mix of antilag personally, but atleast in the loser brackets I just ran around so I understand why you prefer that and i guess you want to reduce tactical element into minstagib as much as possible to base it around more reflex aim).

However I'm not sure it's right to disable that feature (footsteps) for every single player.

You can turn footsteps on or off anyway in the console, g_footsteps 0/1 I think, but i may be wrong, so perhaps you could make a vcall on your minstagib servers, but like I say is it fair to disable it for every player? It was always available in nexuiz so I was told but was not working properly before.

On your post about visibility in dark corners, I don't have a problem but then again CTF uses the brighterskins, and in 1on1DM / TDM, we use sv_defaultplayer_fbskins_green (for example) Is it not possible you can use this? since I haven't heard of any other players mentioning this, and i'm not sure it will be changed.
