/OFF
Nice sig Dave :P
/ON

Well I guess I could live with the lowered damage thru wall/floor.
I guess that way, we get the best of both worlds.

Personally I almost never shot trough a wall , i always lobed my stuff over it ... Because I felt it was like it was an exploid ...
EDIT: Just let the server set this, on some it's on on others it's off...

Must be ON, On In !

;)

when shooting a small wall/workway or even half-transparent stairs i logically expect it to hit through ..

btw; for quake3 it was also ON in the demo/test version, but turned off for the retailversion (maybe later with some fix)

i really think it's a feature.

Well as much as i LOVE this feature/bug i must also admint that this might ba a turn off for beginners and its somewhat strange. I can live with it on or off but this change does also require a change of tactics. Now (with it off) the better strategic place id on top of a map as its harder to get hit. With damage through floor on the position directly under the victim is better. Both require a certain skill!
A argument against DTF would be that with 'off' both people have at least a chance to see and hit each other. If one does look down to hit the opponent he becomes visible and hittable.. So its more fair.
And some maps (blood prison, toxic, darkplace) demonstrate the power 'off' gives to mappers. Just create small gaps, cracks or holes here and there were one can do prediction shots or lob a grenade into.
Oh and the electro combo has a huge radius so this feature might be overused with it and spoil the balanced gameplay.

Never the less i voted yes to reenable it because i really like the twist of shooting below someones feet ;)

i understand that some people, esp. those new to the game, are annoyed by damage through walls. if i understood it correctly, it has never been an intended feature, but a bug in LH's engine.
BUT: c'mon, its pure fun shooting people who think they can hide behind / beneath walls :D
i'm too used to it anyway, so i voted YES 8)

i am not sure if this engine works like q3;
but if, than there is still a difference between a direct hit and a hit trough a wall - the splash damage.

so infact hiding behind a small wall gives the advantage not to be hit directly..
infact you can secure yourself by distance.

infact the mappers now can control of they like DTF or not by their wall/floor design..

maybe this can also be seen as an anti-camping feature, because the camper cannot feel secure even if he doesnt see the opponent.

furthermore players can 'check' their predictions by the 'target hit'-sound even more.

anyway - i really like DTF.

i really think that hiding behind a 1-pixel-wall, grid-fence(?) or stairs that are ~50% transparent is quite unrealistic.

to have this going public on the servers we'll need to wait for the next release or fix, dont we?

god bless you :)

but i agree that some sort of damage reduction would have to be implemented, to prevent an easy abuse...

edit: and, esteel, are other games that behaves wrong, not nexuiz, try to detonate a grenade behind a wall (i do it almost every day ;P) and watch if it defends you well
