i asked Dokujisan if he could set up HOCTF because we needed a good ol classic ctf server . at the time there werent any . it has done well in the past . but now you have to go sit and wait in the server to get anything going . New people to nexuiz dont stay very long . they spend an average of 3 to 5 minutes trying to cap . I think its because we dont take it easy on them , and we shouldnt . or maybe we dont have the same 4-5 maps they love to play as stated earlier in the thread . idk , but i love a good ol game of ctf , but no one plays these days . maybe it IS summertime .

I once played 15 v 15 ctf in redstar republic. It was the most fun I've had in nexuiz. Usually I don't have fun playing: there are few people and they usually play the same few easy maps.

Just your average, typical, "REAL" CTF match in Nexuiz.

Isn't real ctf fairly boring. It's just running across the same 5 maps. The RSR game with 30 peeps had team play (was required to get through the defenses). It was alot of fun, but only occured once.

I play :)

I like HOCTF, but I agree, no one seems to be on it. The Nexuiz Army wants You to play on HOCTF. *Picture of Xolar pointing*

We need to recruit people to HOCTF when we get on.

I actually meant we could play a ctf match like each saturday let's say 16.00 UTC time at de green's. We would get balanced matches in symmetric maps at least (fw and gw do not count except maybe for fun).

It's actually the regular playerbase that is dying. If you check out the hook minsta server, you can see that there are only "whities" (if you know what i mean :D) because they are totally new to Nexuiz and they don't know the basics, they don't know how to move fast, so they use hook/jetpack, they don't know how to use the weapons well, so they use instakill weapons. That's why these servers got so popular because they drained the "fresh blood" from normal CTF. And because minsta CTF doesnt have such a deep learning curve as normal CTF has by far (because of the weapons), it will cause these players get bored from minsta ctf after a while and they leave the game.
I think pn.de is dead because since in spring it became extremely laggy and people just didnt stand it :P It was popular earlier because it was the ultimate svn testserver with TONS of changes, but because now it doesnt offer anything groundbreaking after 2.5 is out, people decide to choose the less laggy servers just as DCC.

What? Does that mean players that do not feature fancy colors in their nick are considered newbies? Oh my, either I am a newbie for a very long time now already or I am playing constantly under a newbie disguise. I hope this doesn't count as cheating? ("oh look, another whitie. I'll just fly past him, he won't be able to aaaargh" *splut*) :P

Isn't DCC's Laid Back CTF server considered "Real" CTF? I am playing quite nice matches there every now and then... and I usually recognize about half of the nicks as ones that I've been playing with before.
<Community>: Why was the name "Nexuiz" licensed to IllFonic in a way that allows IllFonic to use the name without any suffix or subtitle for a commercial console game?

Its so true. Even then most of them are absolutely awful and dont have a clue how to aim or use the hook. Its so easy to get 100 kills and I've only played on these servers about 4 times or something.

It makes me sad to think that this is what the majority of people play. Theres just no challenge in it. I think a lot of them get scared off the normal servers because there tends to be a huge skill disparity when they eventually do try normal matches. I think its mostly the difference of playing mentalspace/facing with and without hook :P
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

indeed. If you look lately at the ppl playing CTf in DCC or Simba you will not see many newbies. Especially in DCC, where the nex is not a gentle caress, a feather tickling your underarm etc etc etc, (though imho i prefer it that way) , there are hardly any newbie that actually sticks more than a couple of days. And honestly, i remember nicks very very well. Actually its more of a challenge nowdays to find who the other fakenicker is : ) . I mean, especially in the maps that are hideously played over and over again -mental-hydro-facing-gasoline-eyecured-gw the nex is so dominating if there are good players around that a newbie has subzero chances of 10 sec of survival . Well thats not really fun is it? Its not that its e.x mikectf that gives at least the noob some time to stock up or at least move without instadying. It;s even frustrating 4 me to be nexed 40 times in a row in mental when the other team is dominating and nex-bitching ruthlessly. imagine a newbie having to use the jumppads : )
So its, no suprise the current sitiuatoin. Newbies have a choise, they take the funniest and most enjoyable, not the most challenging. after all not all ppl play to become better, but for the sheer fun of it : )
