Ow ow ow try to use some punctuation please.

But yeah, DCC has that awful balancing problem too. It might be caused by the stats that are collected. Being at the top makes you a cool guy, it would seem.
Meh.

after a 1 month vacation, playing about 5 hours CTf in DCC today, i tottaly understand your problem Djsupport, although i m from the guys that does use the nex a lot. i mean, we played mentalspace 3 times in a row with vcall restart! : )
and yes, simba [NL] has this a bit fixed with the low nex dmg, but rl whoring is the name of the game after, and the story goes on and on and on. After all this time actually, appart from believing that alpha is some kind of Dr Jekyl and hyde personallity with the trollling etc, he was actually right about that whole fuss of the nex dmg in CTF . In dm etc things feel much better, but alas right now my head buzzes with nexfire after playing a facing worlds game.
And watching my younger brother (younger... he's 17 lol ) trying to play, it seems that as a noob the only way to survive a nex camper is to do the same. It provides actually an understandable lvl of satisfaction to every begginer to nex camp and 2 be able to kill all the grasshopers (nicko, jekki) and the 12 beufort scale cyclons (red dragon, grisu etc) that dissapear b4 you see them and just feel a slight breeze : )

Its just the enourmous steep learning curve to laserjump effectively and nex etc that takes away all the fun for the newbies.
And honestly, with the abundance of pls with the capming is cool and 178 frags in a match is cool (in all games) mentality , if i were a newbiew i would really really hate to play CTF. it was not like that when i first played 2.5 year ago.

I think your also forgetting that 2 1/2 years ago people were not as good, lot's of people got better since then, and it's likely people have gotten better and better aim's etc regardless of camping.

As a new player in a 5 year old-game your always going to find it tricky on a popular server at first, but will get better in time.

yup, you re right that that many ppl got better aiming etc. its just that sometimes i feel that it's really really frustrating to be instasent to oblivion in an open map as a newbie. "camping" (sniping i prefer) is totaly fine, but its also a way to become unpopular if you stick 4ex nexing b2base in mentalspace or cbtf1 or all these open maps. maps fault? yea. still, obsessive compulsive sniping is only smthg i have seen in the last 6 months happening. I dont remember 4 ex u or franco or tzork or anybody being so determined to snipe the hell out of the enemy team in a public server a while ago. still its boring to moan or whine about it, you re right. things have to evolve : ) . map pools and cycles of popular servers 4 ex 4 sure ; )

Yeah, let's not freak out and make radical forced changes. It's only maps like Aurora that are the problem, not the game in general. Mappers have to make balanced maps and players actually have to vote for them if they want a fair chance.

Pain is right, the nex is great for DM, but not for CTF. Not with these settings.

Ignoring the obvious nature of facing, many maps really are too camper friendly. For a player with an excellent aim ANY open or space map becomes a complete massacre. Mentalspace is especially bad because noobs dont tend to have the know how to laser jump between bases and have to take the jump pad which is akin to holding a .44 to your face and pulling the trigger.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

I would agree that a 100 damage Nex would be a good idea if that is what you mean, just no lower than that.

Anyway, I really don't think this has anything to do with CTF. CTF is just a game where you try and steal something from your enemy while he trys to steal something from you.

The main problem is with the maplists on alot of servers that run CTF. They host shitty maps that have a combination of open spaces, too few cover features and too abundant or too easily accessed Nex spawns, while having too few Nex competitor spawns around the map, like CR, MG, Crylink, Hagar and RL in order of best to least good counter. When you combine all these things you get a terribly imbalanced map, but the servers will put these up anyway.

And that's where any trouble for newbes is coming from in this regard.

well lol. couldnt put it better. I mean personnaly i actually stopped nexing the ppl that motionless ,stiff and scared , taking shy small steps ,try to laserpad between the bases im mental : ) .

Still, some space floater maps dont suffer with this prblm. Sepelio's new map which i cant recall the name now, the one with the crushing trap, actually plays very nice. Evilspace, due to the fact that there are many rutes b2b plays frantically, though ends up a constant flag carrier chase. Same with Gasolinepower, though it can be a bit easier defended.
Space fun, though being unbalanced by nature, didn't suffer that much form this prblm either. respaced was worse than oringinal mental. There were many ppl that actually didnt give a shit about their base/team or about the game but were giving a huge fight to win the nex platform, not to help their team but snipe generally. This is 4me the equivalent of some football clubs ultras (hardcore) fans, when they chant for their team stoned, without even watching the game. Ask them the final score they dont even know : D .

And the funniest, the moment a playable map is voted, like the mikectf stuff or the on-whatever-cryptic-name ones or killallorganic etc etc, there is an instavote for endmatch. arghh!!cant change this, this is the nature of a public server on which i reside and that's fair enough. And ok, everyone enjoyes a quick bash of mental in a public serveer, but really the mappool MUST be fixed a bit.

Secondly, many ppl actually prefer to play in DCC rather than Simba due to the reduced nex dmg. ??? I mean this speaks for itself. I myself feel alienated with the lower nex dmg, but hell its better given the same map-pool.

To sum up: a combination of the mappool, setting and player attitude makes for the current situation in the beforementioned severs. things are evolving , but base 2 base sniping imho SHOULD NOT be encouraged by future mappers.
