KEEP 'Instant action...' button

Postby xyz123 » Sat Aug 08, 2009 2:23 pm

I'm anti-social... I like bots. After having run the game levels... I now just pop the game up and run through some 'Instant action...' It's good for newbies, practice, and fuss-free gaming... point and shoot, click and go.
Don't get rid of it, please, thanks.

Instant action is good. Playing on a private server is good. There are times when the Interweb is broken and there are times when playing bots is more fun (not the same as harder) than real players. Bots don't spam the console calling everyone gay)) for a start.

I believe most beginners start there.
I did.

And said beginners aren't here to vote, most of the time, so this poll is skewed.

I voted "sometimes".
Meh.

Well, the poll did what it was supposed to: support a decision on whether to keep the button or not.

Given the amount of "sometimes" votes, it will sure stay. I seriously hadn't expected that anyone really uses that button.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

It's the essence of Nexuiz: the patent-pending Nexuiz style of hit-n-run. (connect, frag, disconnect)

You know how OpenOffice has a quick-starter....

I really like fighting against bots as much as I do against other people, and I think the idea of an instant action button is a good idea in general.

The problem is it is not implemented in a very interesting way- always 3 or 4 bots with a below average skill level, always deathmatch and only on a select few maps it seems like.

This is so repetitive and boring that I didn't like it when I first started playing Nexuiz as a newbe in 2.3 and I find it the same way now that I'm used to fighting "Pro" bots.

(I only have a 15" screen atm, on bigger screens I find even Pros are actually cake, since I can see them then and they won't use cover.) :)

What would make Instant Action worth keeping imo, is for it to have access to almost every bot setting, gametype, map and mutator that ships with the game, to be used at random. 2 Botlikes on Ruiner Deathmatch one match, 1 Godlike on Silvercity Domination with Grapple Hook Mutator on the next match, 6 Experts on Dieselpower Keyhunt with Low Gravity (75%) on another match, etc.

So much random goodness that it never gets old. Kind of like a dynamic campaign mode.

That's obvious and to be addressed, but void if unused. Hence the poll.
