It was considered, but I realized you have very limited exposure to anything other than regular CTF, with DM and possibly Minstagib in older versions.

Unfortunately during your two year absence, you missed the beginnings of PB, you wouldn't understand the sheer prospect of stopping everyone on a public Minstagib server, and cooperating on a monument to the community.

Any type of taunt is intended to incite hatred, people on NY US DM have recently become genuinely angry, slugging profane insults, whenever they are fragged.

The composition of the community is determined by the game, if the game includes prerecorded insults, disrespect will infiltrate the community.

Your standards were as low as the game when you returned, which was before taunts, but after 2.3

If automatic taunts were never implemented, you wouldn't be complaining, and we wouldn't have people swearing at each other over a frag.

False, recently, neither tZork, Demitar, nor XenoTheBlind said 'GG' at anytime through four maps in sequence, even though they all have 'GG' bound.

I have not seen anyone say 'GG' these days, even [PB] has changed to a point where /b/-style random disruption has taken precedence over the Peace, and therefore are unable to form players towers from anything but clones...

I really doubt that is true. However, as for "gg" - yes, it simply is no longer a "custom" in Nexuiz to say that, and I honestly got "un-used" to that too. It sucks. You get "un-used" to it once nobody else does it... so I cannot blame tZork and others for this either.

As for PB - due to the declining community, PB almost always play among themselves now I mean, nobody else is really interested in the PB stuff any more.

I never liked these taunts, but well, "some people" wanted them so badly that they had to be AUTO taunts. Development by community pressure sucks, and you see the result now.

To expand more on PB - if PB had not changed in all the time... What would happen now. We'd be banned from most servers then...

like, what did we do in the past?
server raids, with towerings or hook chains, overlong PB spam aliases (ascii art and stuff), painting funny stuff on the walls, etc... All this would be anything but appreciated on most servers now.

as for PB humor being /b/-like - it is true that some memes caught on inside PB, but PB humor was never exactly subtle anyway. two words: telefrag arena.

Well I can't tell how it was before 2.3, but I definetely got attracted to this game due to its friendly playerbase. I never much liked playing online because I often found people were behaving like trolls. When I started playing Nexuiz, I didn't know about laser jumping or the like (never played quake or similar), but in one of my first online matches somebody pointed me to it without me even asking. Since then, I have found many players to be really helpful and friendly and this is what impressed me a lot.

I also noticed that new players are tending not to care much about good game atmosphere, though this tendency is not very strong. Maybe it is different on US Servers than on the DCC's, where I play mostly.

Sometimes people just don't know about how friendly the playerbase used to be or can be. This is why I always try to offer help to players that are obviously new to playing Nexuiz. I think the best way to re-establish the friendliness in the playerbase is to actively approach Newbies in a friendly way - if this is one of the first impressions they get from playing Nexuiz online, then chances are high that they too are evolving into respectful and friendly players.

Still, instead of forming yet another community which basically is what {X} is except restricted from newcomers ({X} is not as long as they fit in by basic etiquette), we should rather promote the "nexiquette" to other players too.

Fact is, community ethos HAS declined a lot, at the same time as the NN community was formed. z's great web development made NN a platform that is easy to find and use.

The problem is that this attracted more of the "asshats" (1. people who just want to troll, 2. people who would use any means to win a match, including cheating, and insulting the other - think monkey island), as some people here call them, than players who actually care for the friendly atmosphere. This is partially because there is no room for friendliness in a seriously taken duel...

And of course, a rapid decline of ethos led to many of the "old school" players to go away - namely, those who actually were the top friendly ones in the community. Of course, this made the atmosphere even worse.

How to fix this, I don't know, but an "oldschool" community where NOBODY NEW WILL EVER BE ALLOWED IN certainly is not the way. Making {X} more active would probably be better, but most members are too covered up with real life.

However, one other result can be taken from this: all members of {X} and [PB], previously the "epitome of friendliness in game" but now only seldomly seen, should try playing more, and serving as good examples. This includes myself. Too bad I currently have no server to play on.

to start a new closed group/community within an apparently already closed community is not the way to go.. Rather as already stated realising that "xyz is obviously the way xyz is" and those who is seen as the greater parts of the community like devs, the really good players, the old timers of the community, the new players in town, make a joint effort to show the unwanted elements the door.

A suggestion I would like to put forward could be that one or several of the top clans, with the best players, would agree on having a certain code to follow, when it comes to noobs or asshats (be it timer script users, vote spamers or trolls alike) thereby safeguarding the soul and feeling of the community as an whole.

Every clans first rule should be Be noob friendly AND punish the asshats severely.
If there is a clan, not willing to agree to this simple rule, well let them compete within their own clan and freeze them out.

And a simple "stfu/gtfo" from good players, send a statement to other players on the server that its not ok, to be an "asshat" of any sort.
Hopefully other players start to take the same actions. Good actions multiply in life.
Also less "serious bidness", to try have fun, even those days its failure all over the place and you start to ponder if you really shouldn't have Sir failalot as your handle.
Don't start saying "fuck", all over the place and so on, a simple ..... is more than sufficient.
Or in the worst case say stuff like, "this is boring", which is really disrespectful against the other players on the server.

I for one, think of myself as a carebear, and try to help people over at DCC Beginners, when I have a opportunity is there infront of me.

Of course this is without involving the server admins. And on that note, I would like to see more trusted people on certain servers, as in DCC, in my case.

I'm going to agree with what paperclips said above after reading back through the thread but I still don't see a problem with autotaunting. I just don't see how it would cause people to rage unless they are of poor humour.

Anyway thinking over it I will say I have not seen many of these server invasions or anything else but I have seen things such as groups of random people working together for speed running or a mysterious clan called [nac] punishing asshats for asshattery. Also I couldn't forget to give a mention to the awesomness of the tuba.
