oh lol. totally forgot to comment on the auto taunting bit, which was the thing I was supposed to comment in the first place. No I cant either see how the auto taunting sounds would make ppl rage on about whatever first came to mind. on the other hand some ppl in the world actually base their world view on certain news sources so, who knows.. aftonbladet/expressen/foxnews/thedailyhate and so on and forth, nevermind this text

As to this broken window thing I really don't see its application to a game. Players are players, the majority don't just sit and play Nexuiz all the time. A lot of smacktardery is imported from other games. That and some people are just asshats.

If people want to be able to turn off little bits of the game then thats fine but I don't want it ruining my gib covered, blood and cursing filled fun fest. Heck, I don't even care if you have this stuff turned off by default as long as it can be enabled.

Spot on.

Seriously, I see more replies on threads like this then actual important aspects of the game, and it's what will more or likely make me stop playing.

You cannot stop people who want to call you a newb/n00b/noobie etc or if they say wtf, you suck etc.

Back in the 'old days' people would take this as a compliment in general, it's only when someone in the community who attacks you specifically for no good reason you should really start to get a little annoyed.

But putting time and effort into kicking people who say suck, wtf, newb etc really isn't time well invested in my oppinion.

I've said this for a long time and i'll say it again. Public servers are PUBLIC servers! I only play on them for fun and to see new maps when I do which is rarely. If you want more mature games play clan-games.

What the community does lack is people who whittle on about public game's but do not support clan activity.

I have seen a few threads now which have veered off onto oh public's have too many newb's etc causing disrespect or how to fix it, why don't the older members create some teams/clans learn to use IRC and arrange matches and play that way, there is also the pickup channel which is not used enough, it is there for the reason that you older/maturer players can have a DECENT game with each-other.

It's been advertised atleast twice on these forums, by not using it and still complaining I believe some people only have themselves to blame.

If you don't want to be part of clan activity fair enough but don't expect your gaming experience to get much better in the future on public servers if you want game's like in the past where everyone knows everyone, the game is bigger now and that's not the case, create clans have clan game's and use the pickup servers if you want it like that, otherwise use publics as a source of fun and a quick-blast and stop creating these threads.

What k0jak said.

The Nexuiz community is just getting bigger and everything that comes along with that. This is because Nexuiz is not just another FPS, it is the best free FPS out there and getting better and that attracts more players, both good and evil.

Another thing to consider is that the worst kind of community may not be a chaotic, slightly immature community, but a harsh, repressive one where you are auto kicked for typing the wrong things or server admins ban those they are just having a difficult time beating in-game.

So by trying to 'fix' the community you might just send it closer to being something far worse, with a culture of ban first ask question later.

The thing I always admired the most about Nexuiz' community, was how easy going it was in this respect. Even when some rare person was a little colorful, folks would just laugh him off, or maybe make him a slightly higher priority target if he was on the opposing team.

I've read most of the part on the bus on the way to home, so sorry if I double post somebodys ideas :)

The problem here imho is the lack of serious moderation. "Back in the old days" there was no need for such thing, but as the community and the popularity grows, there's a need for a change too.

I'm talking about serious moderation of the servers and the irc channels. I think trusted members of the community should look after the servers all day. I know this is lot to do, but in case we can get a shedule on who and when moderates the servers, we might start the retribution.

27 20:59:12 <dcc_plain> <[LDB]C.Brutail {X} {b}> odd... whenever I play, somebody always gets banned...

It seems like this is the only way nowadays.
Irrc there's a cross-server banlist under works. But wich servers are using it? I think very few. Imho enabling it cross-world would improve on the situation a lot.
We all have the tools: kicking, banning, server to irc gateways, logs of the servers uploaded to websites, ssh to servers, good, well mannered and trusted people of the community...

...but as it seems, nobody takes the advantages of this. :(
If the community won't organise it's own defense, nobody else would.

Btw, I _always_ start all my online games with:

Code: Select all
bind 9 "say Artifex armifer digitis dextris oculis occultis!"
bind 8 "say ^2gl & hf"

And I _always_ type in "gg" _manually_ after all my matches.

Not so much that, it has more to do with the fact that they see it being done (autotaunts and what have you), so they think it's "ok" to start doing it themselves.

Not quite true.

Quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi.

Unfortunately, for years now, I have to divide the people who plays Nexuiz into two: the forum and irc regulars, who I can always call my friends ingame (with a _few_ exception), and the "public". It's not coming from an elitism though, don't get me wrong. I just don't know them - but I know what I can and cannot allow myself while talking to them.
Eg.:
In case I get fragged multiple times, I could tell / say him ingame:

Fuck you xy :P

and I _know_ he won't get mad at me, because we're friends, we know eachother, and probably he/she won't get mad at me, the situation would be clear: I don't mean it, it's a joke. as for mysell, I'd probably reply with a "fu too :P" or "Come, get me ;) "

But this is not the case with those who I don't know.
This is something that newcommers or "public" can't understand: "gay))))" is not a regular ingame chatphrase, but a funny catchphrase, an insider joke, which looses it's funniness once it's used too much.

This comes from personal intelligence too. I'm fully against swearing and trashtalking ingame, but I have autotaunts on, and sometimes I have a good laugh on them.

Oh, and "electrobitch" was one of the coolest announcer sounds I've ever heared in any game. Not to mention Yoda ;)

I suppose not everyone is calm and sensible like us and able to take things light heartedly :P
I always thought the electrobitch taunt was great as well as yoda. Its sad to see them go.

Anyway I had something else to say but now I can't remember what it was.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

I hate when those people automatically say "gg" at the end of every single match, even when it was a pro vs noob rampage :p

Well, compared to most of you i'm a newb. Because i've only known about nexuiz for 9 months, I never got to see the "Good times" of the Nexuiz community... Although I personally think the community is improving now with Nexuiz becoming more and more advanced. As for the clan tag, I don't think i'm "old" enough to use it yet :P Besides, I have no room in my nickname either.
Do it yourself, or stop complaining.
